The Strong One

New day, new start.

I drank the rest of my coffee from the day before, brushed my teeth with the help of a bottle of water, and checked out my suitcase.

My clothing style was really bland. I wore jeans and plain shirts, and the only jewelry I wore was a gold chain around my ankle from my mother, before she took after my father. I pulled on a with t-shirt and some navy blue jeans, before realizing that it was super fucking cold! I pulled on a hoodie and turned the heat on in my car. How did I not realize that it was freezing? I guess my old town was a lot hotter, so I assumed that Forks would be just as warm. I made a mental note to buy warmer clothes.

Next step: going to school. I called in a week ago to tell them that I was transferring to their school, Forks high school, and because i'm a pro at forging signatures, I was welcomed with open arms. I searched up the directions to my new school and drove there straight away. I needed this. I needed to see people, even if I didn't know them. I needed to walk around, learn something, maybe relax a little. I could not wait to start my day.

I almost missed it, only there was this big sign that had the schools name on it. Other than that, it looked like a huge collage of houses smashed together, all sorts of different coloured bricks combining to make a smallish building.

I found a place to park next to a shiny Volvo, the only decent looking car besides mine, but still far prettier that mine. I wondered if they liked to ride fast too. God knows they'd be able to.

The secretaries office was a bright little room, with a billion plants and plain posters advertising multiple school activities. A red haired lady in glasses sitting behind the desk lifted her hand and waved me over.

"You're Y/N L/N, aren't you?" she said. I nodded,  suddenly a little nervous. "I thought I didn't recognize you. Here are some sheets, just make sure each and every one of your teachers sign them and hand them over to me at the end of the day. Oh, and here's a map of the school, although I doubt you'll need it. Anyone would be happy to show you around."

I felt a little uncomfortable net to her (she occupied a lot of space mentally), so I thanked her and headed on my was to my first class, science.

Everywhere I went, I got stares. I don't think they were bad, just people interested in a new person, prey, whatever. A few people introduced themselves to me, and I learnt a couple names. Allen Joseph was one of the first to come up to me. We talked all the way to science and waited for our lesson to begin.

"You haven't met anyone else yet?" he asked, surprised. Everyone had known each other since they were babies apparently.

"No, just you really. I didn't introduce myself yet, sorry. I' Y/N."

"Yeah I think everyone knows who you are. You're the talk of the school. Last time someone new came here, they died."

That scared me, and he seemed to notice, because he laughed and told me it was a joke. We didn't get to talk any more though, because the teacher had started her lesson.

I never ended up talking to Allen again after class, because we didn't have the next period together. As I headed over to Spanish, a girl started walking besides me.

"You're Y/N, right?" she said

"Why does everyone know my goddamn name?" I didn't remember being popular, so it was surprising to me that someone I had never met act like they knew me.

"I'm Carla, I don't think it's that unusual that people here know your name. Everyone here is nosy."

Just then, a couple boys walked past, almost inhumanely fast and smooth. They were gorgeous. One, the slightly shorter one, had bronze, messy hair and looked like he was listening to voices. The stronger looking one had short, curly, black hair, wearing a tighter zip up sweater. They looked very pale, and tired. I couldn't stop staring at the strong one. God he was so handsome.

The second I thought that, the bronze haired one made direct eye contact with me. It was almost impossible to avert my eyes. He chuckled, murmured something to his companion and then he looked at me. Butterflies went through my stomach, and I was glad we were so far away so he couldn't clearly see how nervous I suddenly became.

In a second, it was done. He looked away, and I regained my consciousness.

"Who were those guys?" I asked Carla.

"Oh, did you notice the Cullens?" an amused smirk appeared on her face. "The bronze haired one is Edward, he's a little shy, doesn't go out with anyone. The other is Emmett. They also have a sister, Alice, and live with two other siblings, Rosalie and Jasper Hale. I don't really know much about them."

"And why's that?" I was letting curiosity show in my voice.

"Because they don't talk to anyone, let alone be friends with them. You wanna know something weird?" She was going to tell me anyway, so I just nodded. "Some of them are together. Like, TOGETHER together."

"What? you lost me there."

"Jasper is dating Alice, and I think Rosalie and Emmett had a fling a while back. Edward, no one knows."

Emmett was single? How was that possible?

Carla glanced at her phone. "Shit we've got to get to class."

I needed to get my signature, so off we went.
