Esme came running up to us to stop us from going any further. We were more than a mile from the river, probably farther than Edwards mind reading range.
"Close your eyes and I will lead you to the house."
"Again with the closing your eyes?" I said, exasperated.
But she wanted this, and if I was being honest, so did I. I wanted to officially start a new life with Emmett, and my new family. Nothing, not even my hatred for oblivion, could spoil my happiness. Em grabbed my right hand, while Esme grabbed our free ones, and led us through the forest. For some reason, we never went near the river. Was there some sort of secret passage?
We stopped, very far from home, and Esme told us to open our eyes.
I think Emmett had been peeking a little, because he was definitely not as surprised as me. Instead of seeing our house, with a new room, maybe some pretty defcorations, there was a huge cottage looking building, beautiful green vines cascading down the walls. It looked like a house straight from a fairy tale, the beautiful wooden and stone walls nest to a tiny stream, probably coming from the river. In the keyhole of the door frame, there was a beautiful brass key, with a red ribbon tied like a bow.
I looked at Esme, my eyes almost glowing with tears. "Is this real?" I asked, my voice breaking. No one had ever done something like that for me. I got pretty crappy Christmas presents, and other than that and my birthday, I didn't really get anything. I never really had many friends, and I couldn't buy anything myself because I was broke.
She nodded, and pushed us towards the house, because we were both to stunned to move. I shook out of my trance to hug Esme ad whisper in her ear "I love you" before taking Em's hand and running into the house.
The inside was just as lovely, looking like a royal summer hideout. Whatever wasn't a polished wooden paradise was marble and stone. There was a kitchen for some reason, so Emmett and I could have eating contests again, and a bookshelf only half filled, so we could choose our own books as well. The hallway had a bathroom and a bedroom, the latter with a closet so big it must have been Alice's idea. The bed was a beautiful white with a black and gold bed frame. All the furniture looked absolutely brand new and perfectly in place. There was no way they could do all of that in two days.
I looked behind me to try and thank Esme for all her work, but all I could see was the door slamming shut. Of course she would do this. I loved her, she was like the super excited mom I never had. I turned to Emmett, whose face was frozen in an ecstatic expression, and we made eye contact.
"We have a house" He said incredibly.
"I've never owned a house before," I told him.
"Me neither"
We shared a quick kiss, and a tight hug. Emmett put his hands on my shoudlers, looking at me seriously. He then proceeded to get down on his knee.
"Y/N," He started.
"Emmett we had this discussion before I'm not ready,"
"I love you, and I have loved you since the day you woke up and talked to me,"
"Emmett I swear if you do this-" I warned.
"Will you,"
"Emmett..." I said as he went to get something out of his back pocket.
"Have an eating competition with me?" He finished, pulling out a tablespoon.
Flooded from relief, I took a deep breath, and lowered myself to his level.
"Yes," I said, pretending to cry. "A thousand times yes!"
We kissed like the couples in the movies when they get married, passionate and a little weird, but it finished soon when we started laughing at our own joke. He got up, bowing and presenting his arm for me to take.
"My love," He offered.
I responded, hooking my arm around his.
"My life,"
