The team of six exited the puppy mill with a new sense of what they had to do now. Their next task had changed, but the overall goal of them grouping up remained the same. Ruben, Butch and any of their allies will die before we do anything else. If we fail, everything we worked to accomplish as a group of six will fall to ashes and be in vain. We can't let that happen. Thunder thought to himself as the visors on the team's helmets lowered back down over their eyes, and the sun began to shine back into their eyes.
"Well, we're heading back to our base soon. I'm so glad we were able to save all of you from this shit hole, but stay safe until the Barkingburg police come to assist with re homing each and every one of you." Odin said to the group of pups outside the puppy mill as the group of six sat down.
"But what about us who have members of our family in other mills or with us now?" A bloodhound from the group asked as she looked towards her sister. Their mother had died in the cage that all three dogs shared, but the two sisters were hopeful that their father was still out there, somewhere.
"We will make sure all families are reunited as best as possible, and then stay together." Odin answered as he thought about all the pups who probably go through this kind of situation all over the world.
"I had a question too," the mastiff from inside the puppy mill said, getting the attention of the team of six. "Why can't we just stay at the base your team is at? Surely there is enough space." He inquired, hoping for a consideration of this from the team, if it was at all possible. After all, these six pups saved all of their lives, why wouldn't they want to stay with them if it was possible?
Odin sighed a bit before he responded, he wanted to give the answer these pups wanted to hear, but that wasn't possible. I want to help them with our base, but as a special forces officer, and with the six of us having to leave for Adventure Bay today. We can't do this, unfortunately. Odin thought to himself as he looked back towards the mastiff who had a patient and expecting look in his eyes as he looked towards the Labrador Retriever.
"I'm sorry to say it, but that won't be possible. It's not that we don't want to help all of you, but our base is way too busy, and our squad is being deployed to Adventure City today, so we won't be here." Odin said as the mastiff held back a few tears before standing back up, and facing the group of pups outside of the mill.
"I see, well, stay safe in Adventure City, okay? We'll cooperate with the police when they come to take us to our new homes regardless of where those are." The mastiff said as the group of pups Odin's team rescued from the puppy mill all huddled together and spoke to themselves.
The Mastiff then came out of the huddle and spoke to the team, "So, do you all have a squad name? It would be nice to have something to call you all other than just our rescuers." He explained as the rest of the pups nodded, expecting an answer.
This was something Thunder and the rest of the team hadn't thought about, but they wish they had thought of something. "We're The Whispers." Thunder said suddenly, coming up with something on the spot as the team got into a group position that they came up with on the spot as well.
As the team were in the process of breaking up the positions, the Mastiff said, "The Whispers? I like the name, but I have a question. Where did it come from? Does it mean anything to the six of you?" he asked. The team had just thought of the name on the spot, but they thought their name made a lot of sense, and they liked the ambiguity that came with it.
Thunder nodded towards his team, showing that he had an answer for the Mastiff as he walked forward. "When the six of us were given our mission and formed our squad, we were asked to come up with a squad name, so we came up with The Whispers." Thunder paused for a moment, taking a deep breath, before returning his gaze to the Mastiff in front of him. "The Whispers symbolizes our refusal to remain silent about the horrors animal kind faces in the modern world, and how we will stand up and fight. No matter what." Thunder remarked as the six pups did a salute with their pups and looked forward.
