Immediately as the five grenades exploded, the bomb in city hall counted down to zero as well, triggering an automated message that filled the air for a short period of time while the smoke continued to clear.
"Training bomb defuse test: Failed. Time expired. Try again next time."
Behind cover, the members of the Paw Patrol wanted to curse at themselves. They had panicked and rushed to defuse what they thought was a live bomb in City Hall, only for it to be a training bomb from a bomb squad, but that didn't take away from the live danger of whoever threw the five grenades into the parking lot, likely being the same people who screamed out Marshall's name. Those grenades all individually left small holes in the parking lot of city hall, leaving small trails of smoke to rise into the air.
But that one other thing stuck out to Marshall, the two recognizable voices that called out to him as the grenades exploded still sent shivers down his spine.
"Pups, Mayor Goodway, be on alert. We might have to evacuate the parking lot if things get worse." Ryder cautioned, trying to survey the situation from behind the cover of Marshall's fire truck.
Mayor Goodway was also behind Marshall's fire truck, her ears ringing from the loud sounds of the grenades. "Understood Ryder. Stay safe out there Paw Patrol, I'll hide behind here."
Ryder looked out from the fire truck to see two figures, those being Ruben and Butch in military grade armor with rifles scanning the parking lot.
"Oh Paw Patrol! We know you're hiding behind those vehicles. Come on out!" Ruben and Butch both shouted out, trying to bring the team out of hiding to bring stage two of their plan into action.
As they were shouted towards, Ryder looked at Chase, who was leaned up against his police cruiser and had an idea.
"Chase, when I nod, I want you to use your grappling hook to tackle one of these two down to give us an opening." He began, Chase nodded at this as Ryder looked towards Rocky and Marshall next.
"Rocky, as Chase does this, I need you to get the camo backpack from my ATV. It has a flash bang in it that we can use to get away." He continued, Rocky nodded at this, looking towards Ryder's ATV as he did. It was fairly close by, and with Ruben and Butch distracted thanks to Chase, he could easily dash to the ATV and grab the backpack.
And after reviewing confirmation from Rocky, Ryder looked towards Marshall who was visibly shaking next to Rocky after realizing Ruben and Butch were here and threatening him and his friends again.
"And Marshall, after all of this is over, I'm going to get you and Everest an emergency session with Rebecca as your first session. Things have gone on too far and for too long." Ryder assured Marshall, trying to calm the pup down a bit.
"Th-Thanks Ryder... I'll be okay for now, but I'm feeling like I know what I have to do." Marshall said, standing up on all fours as he looked up to the pouring sky once more.
"Marshall, don't do anything risky. This is an extremely dangerous situation." Chase advised, hoping Marshall wasn't about to leave the cover he had to take the fight to Ruben and Butch.
Marshall looked down again, sighing lightly as he looked towards Chase. "Chase, don't worry about me anymore. It's me these monsters want, it's better if I go down to save everyone else."
As he said this, Marshall detached his pup pack, still wearing his helmet and vest and looked upwards towards Ruben and Butch. To him, it was terrifying to leave himself this vulnerable to the monsters of his past, but he didn't want them to see him as a threat.
"Ah the pup of the hour has come out of hiding!" Ruben and Butch yelled nearly at the same time, locking the red dot sights of their rifles onto Marshall as soon as they could.
