It was the day before my birthday, and I was currently being brought back to my parent's house since they didn't want Kate being alone, there was also the small fact that the boys would be coming over and none of them knew about my house, mostly because I never told them about it.

It was also nice to not have the idiots arriving on my doorstep to bother me because they're bored. Tonight that would not be an option.

My new bodyguard Elijah sat in the front seat of the glossy black Maybach I was being brought to my family home in.

Just another symbol of the family wealth.

Elijah was also a pretty quiet and steadfast person. At just eighteen he was an ex-marine apparently having been one of the best when he served for a year, and due to his part was now hired like many who left service did to enter private security.

Looking out the window I took in the towering buildings of New York as they glowed down on the city, but still seemed so cold with all the stone that the buildings in this area were all made of.

A concrete maze seemed more accurate than a concrete jungle.

Eventually the car rounded the corner of the recently rain-soaked streets making the concrete glisten black, reflecting the light from the lamps and headlights of the Maybach.

When the vehicle stopped outside the building I stepped out and retrieved the umbrella before looking over at Elijah who'd been going back and forth from the Hamptons to Manhattan.

"Car park is down a level say you're my PPO, they'll let you in," I say and walk away towards the front door of the high rise, already held open by the doorman.

My shoes clicked on the ground as I walked and I quickly noticed the looks from the staff as if I'd been absent which technically I had been, but I preferred the house way out in the Hamptons.

I didn't have to deal with ninety percent of the idiots in this city.

Getting to the elevator I all but punched the button and stepped inside when the doors opened a minute later, before ascending to the top floor, the ping of the light following every flash of another passing floor. I then collected myself knowing that I would have to talk to my parents about what the expectations for this evening would be.

My dad was the one I was more worried about talking to since I still hadn't fully gotten used to him putting in the effort to reconnect, whatever the fuck that was going to look like in the long run. He knew he had work to do and I took note of him trying but I knew deep down it would take years for me to even begin to forgive him, but who knows what will happen.

The doors then slid open and there stood my mom and dad. Both were neatly dressed my mother in a long partially sequin black and gold dress along with shiny pear diamond earrings, and a matching necklace. My dad in a dark beige long coat while the dress shirt and pants he wore were black.

"Are you sure you two will be okay alone here?" my mom asks looking between me and Kate who gave one another a look as though to communicate were teenagers and could figure it out if we didn't know what to do.

"Yes, I think we will, dad I have a quick question," I state looking to my father and gesturing for him to lean down so I could speak to him.

"Yes Adrian," he replies as he stuffed his wallet into his pocket.

"What drawer is your handgun in, in your desk?" I whisper and he glances over at my mom, and sister both of which were talking about what safety precautions, unaware of my question.

"Bottom you have to put in a password on my computer, then a second one to open it, here I'll write them down," he says before striding into the kitchen and getting a pen before writing down both passwords and folding the stick note. When he came back, I took it and put it in the top of my jean coin pocket so it couldn't fall out.
