Fast paced footsteps echoed as I came down the spiral stairs to the bottom floor of my penthouse. I was in a surprisingly pleasant mood that morning. Whether it had been from the nightmareless night I'd had or the fourteenth day straight that I'd woken up with Monaco's golden sunlight casting shadows and silhouettes on my walls, I didn't know.
Pulling my black kimono around my body I walked into the kitchen and began making my coffee, the last I'd have in Monaco. I had planned more travelling to do a quick stop back in New York then I'd be going to Wyoming.
I did a lot of travelling during summers it was just how it was either way I found it funny how some people tried to track my movements but my security was in a dozen countries and I often asked them to be super subtle about how they guarded me unless absolutely necessary to be seen.
Listening to early 2010's music I began my attempt at eggs benedict though I always seemed to make them as a side to some extravagant breakfast I would feel on the verge of a food coma when done eating.
A few minutes later I heard the elevator ding and Elijah walks in holding a black folder with the corners being some form of gunmetal grey band.
"Sir, this is the surveillance report on the inside of Demetri's life. You'd asked for it pretrial," Elijah says setting the folder on the marble bar ledge above the counter.
"Thank you, Elijah, what exactly will I find in here?" I say tapping it though I didn't actually puck it up as I was still cooking and refused to separate myself unless absolutely needed.
"He had been in a relationship with the girl you asked me to look into after you met at the October Gala, she's from Brooklyn, reportedly he had also been in drug dens and money laundering. He's been focusing on the intel and planning inmates. The Warden has been keeping them separate though it's difficult to judge someone who hasn't really ever had clear intentions," Elijah explains.
"What of his stepmom and dad?" I pry knowing that there was always a bitter relationship from Demetri and it always set him off.
Then again, the kid had seen his dad get a perfect restart after his biological mom left. It affected him negatively turned him to all kinds of messy things. He was a true street gang kid. Demetri was also a killer I knew that now.
"They are happy still moved recently to Jersey City," Elijah replies opening the file.
"You mentioned a girl Demetri had been with, what else do we know about her?" I muse dismissively, though I wanted to know how much of what I'd submitted made it to the trial and had been helpful to put the motherfucker away where he couldn't hurt her anymore.
"Quite a bit actually. The police records showed there were multiple times where she was abused, physically, verbally, and even had an effect on her mental health. Friends admitted to the changes and how poorly he treated her. She was a game to him and she had no one to go to. Her name is kept a secret but respect would be the least we could give her," Elijah says leaning against the counter.
"On that we agree, is this information kept at all," I draw out pausing my cooking which was finally done.
"Yes, we collected a separate folder on her, starting from the basics since of course we aren't supposed to have police info," Elijah says placing the file in front of me and this one I opened before reading over the basic information that was found.
"She attended Williamsburg Preparatory, as in past tense, with the intellect noted here she shouldn't be a dropout," I remark looking up at him.
"She wasn't difficult to find once we knew where to look, I just hope you know what you're doing looking this deep into someone," Elijah says.
