Playfully, I wrestle with her a little longer, and purposefully let her win. So much has changed since we came here. Rose's mom drops in every now and then, but then always scampers off to the far corners of the world doing who knows what. We've seen her on 5 separate occasions, and we've only been here for 2 months.
The water tribe is still apprehensive about letting Rose and I into the South Pole. My old friends here though, have been supportive to the move. Already, though, there's been petitions going around to get us out of town, but none have been successful.
Yet.
Eventually, Rose pushes me out of her room and slams the door. She's been... different after the Attack on Ganshen. But we have to settle in. The real reason the Council is letting Rose stay, is because of a treaty some avatar made long ago after some civil war. Rose has to learn Waterbending, and this is the ideal place for me to teach her. No other teacher here will help her; they're all too scared.
I slip outside, pulling on my parka hood and fastening my mittens. I take a few deep breaths, savouring the icy air that I call home before setting off to the waterbending centres that the tribe has set up. With the war and all, the centres have really just become military training facilities, but I don't mind. It means you can always practice with a partner.
