"We're breaking into the military? Won't we get like... killed for that?" Liesel squeaks.

"Once they see who Rose is, they'll be extra careful not to shoot," replies Nathan.

Although I can tell the pain has lessened a ton, I still sense that he's having some trouble keeping up. I make sure to steady my pace along side him.

There's a slight, cool breeze in the air announcing that fall is near. It's funny to think that it's almost been a year since Nathan and I started this journey. Ever since I met Nathan, he's been following me like a lost puppy. I want to believe that I hate it, and to some extent I do. But I also kind of depend on him to always be behind me, even if I seem to be running away from him at the same time.

When we stop for a lunch break, Nathan begins to draw out a rough plan of our little invasion. We gather around, and everyone seems to be waiting for Nathan's lead.

He carefully draws a stick figure in the dirt with a stick. He grins a little. "Now, this is Rose. She's going to come up with the best distraction ever."

Yeah, I saw that coming. He's going to kick me out of the fighting and use me as a distraction. But I smile anyway, knowing this is something I'm also really good at.

"So we're using Princess Avatar as bait? Isn't she supposed to be the most powerful of us all?" Evan says, leaning against a tree trunk nonchalantly.

"But she'll make an even greater diversion if she is the avatar. That's what the military wants," adds Liesel with a smile. Evan smiles back and I notice them staring at each other for a few seconds too long.

I make teasing puking noises, which makes Rowan and Xander laugh, while Nathan just glares at me.

"If you haven't noticed already, we're at war. Try to be serious for once," he snaps.

I roll my eyes. "Whatever, Captain Buzzkill. So how many days will it take to get to the military base?"

"Around two days on foot. We'll just need to take less breaks and wake up early."

Evan grins. "Aye aye, Captain. You know, I think Rose is on to something with that nickname."

"Shut up," Nathan mumbles.

I hear Liesel giggle a little, but probably only because it came out of Evan's mouth.

How is Liesel so attracted to him?

Not that Evan is disgusting, he's just not someone I'd ever consider dating. Well, that might have something to do with him being my boyfriend's brother and he tried to kidnap me multiple times in the past.

We keep walking until we come across another small town. We go around asking about the military to get a better grip on what we're about to take on. We all partner up so we can ask questions throughout the town faster than if we all stuck together.

"Oh my gosh!" Exclaims Xander, pointing to a shop in awe.

"Oh, a mechanic shop. Hurray," I mumble, knowing what's about to come.

"You don't think they would care if we just looked around, would they?"

I groan. "Those places creep me out. Everyone stares at my arm and leg like it was gold or something."

It takes fifteen minutes of listening to "look how this screwdriver fits in my hand!" and "this is the most beautiful wrench I've ever seen in my life" for me to finally drag him out.

"Don't worry, after we win this war, I'll buy you that whole shop," I confirm with a smile.

"Cool," he answers with a grin.
