I rise to my feet with a jolt. I run to my bedroom and grab the backpack Rose and I traveled with, and I stuff it with clothes, a water bottle, some canned food, a can opener, and some rubbing alcohol. I secure my satchel to my belt, and then fumble with the lock on the door, then sprint past it when I finally get past it. My mind swirls. Rose is going to get herself killed. My feet pound into the snow as I run to Evan's house, and the same pounding goes through my fist as I knock frantically at the door. The door opens almost instantly. "What do you want?" A voice drawls.
"Evan, Rose just ran off to the Earth Kingdom."
"So?"
"Come with me, to save her."
"Why would she need that?"
"What?"
Evan shrugs. "She is the Avatar after all. I'm sure she can fend for himself."
"Dude, the Earth Kingdom has DEATH WARRANT ON HER HEAD!"
Evan rolls his eyes. "What do you want me to do? I'll do it, I kinda owe you for giving you up to the Firelord and turning your girlfriend into an emo freak."
I feel a scowl stain my face. Evan chuckles.
"We need to accompany Rose to the Earth Kingdom. I feel the next part of her journey resides there."
"Sure. You'll owe me if we get captured."
"Come on, we're two bloodbenders who can bend during the day. Seeing as the only people to defeat us are the Avatar or other bloodbenders, I think we're good."
Evan nods. "Are we bringing Gwen along?"
I hesitate. I remember her tear-stained face running away from me. "What do you think?"
"As annoying as that b*tch is, she's one of the best waterbenders around, yes, we should-"
"Don't call Wendy a b*tch." My tone is serious.
"Okay, okay. As I said, we should bring her," he finishes.
"Could you ask her?"
Evan gives me the eyebrow wiggle, but offers me a nod.
