Her breath is warm as she talks. "I swear I don't remember anything!" she says, her voice raising with a nervous quiver. "Thats why I can only guess how you became such a self-centred asshole who will do anything to get what he wants!"
"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP-"
"And even so, you still refuse to acknowledge it? After you kidnap me, send me dirty looks, and don't show an inch of gratitude to me ever since I came here?"
Her words leave little craters in me. Mainly, because somewhere in me, I know she's right. Denying it just seals the deal.

Rose sighs. "You're just trying to defend something you know in your heart is false."
"Rose, give me a break," I reason, lifting my head to meet her eyes.
"This is unhealthy for both of us, Nathan," she whispers. "You need to snap out of it. Not just for my sake, but yours t-"
"Go away." My lips move almost robotically. I'm not used to such strict criticism of character.
"Nath-"
"Just.... go."
It hurts so much to be talked to this way, and the pain doubles, when everything the person is saying is the concrete truth.
