We've been through a lot together, Rose and I. I can still remember when I first met her, as she was dragged into my house and I felt her chi patterns. The first kiss to defend against my brother, the kiss by the chocolate fountain and the many kisses that have happened behind the scenes ever since. Rose, her smile, her golden hair, her ruby eyes. My best friend. The person I would die for.
No-one really knows my past, so they don't see the network of complexity that controls me. A system so complicated does make mistakes. But one so big as to call my girlfriend a bitch?
If there's someone who's a bitch, it's me.
Or Wendy. I still can't forget what torture she put me through those three months we were trying to find Rose...
Off-topic, I know. But as I embrace Rose's shaking body, feeling her heat against mine, I really see to redemption for my mistakes.
"I love you too, Nathan," Rose whispers into my ear.
I ruffle her hair. My eyes lower. "Look Rose, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean anything I said, and I'm sorry for acting like a dick."
Rose nods. She smiles a little and just hugs me. "It's nice to know that you're slowly going back to a nice person. I don't remember our relationship much," she continues before stopping and swallowing, "but I know you were a good person."
Her tone is sincere, but her face reflects uncertainty. She no longer shakes like a leaf, the nightmare appears to have since been forgotten.
"Rose, have the nightmares triggered anything? Any memory whatsoever?"
"Sadly not..." Rose says quietly. "Nothing has improved since a few nights ago."
Her eye twitches.
"Rose, you have something in your eye..."
"What?" she asks. "Oh!"she says, blushing red. "It's nothing."
"Oh, good," I say, my eyes flitting to the left, and then they fly to focus in on a clock.
3:00 AM
"It's almost morning," I say. "I have to wake up at 6:00 tomorrow to help pay off a favour, so I better get some sleep."
"Oh, okay."
"If I leave this room, you promise not to sneak out and freeze in the middle of the night?"
She chuckles, "Sure," she says. "I promise."
"Sweet dreams, Rose."
"Good night, Nathan."
I lean for a kiss.
She accepts and kisses me back.
As we kiss, I see a shadow of guilt pass through her eyes, but it's gone in seconds. When we finally pull apart, I give her a peck on the cheek, and then walk into the darkness towards my room.
