"She's the Avatar, and that's her duty!" I roar, my chair screeching across the wooden group as I stand up abruptly. "She can't use losing her memory as an excuse for slacking! People are dying out there!"
"Shut the f*ck up Nathan! I've been here for you your entire life!" Gwen snarls. "REMEMBER THE SOUTHERN LIGHTS, NATHAN." She screeches. "YOU MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN, BUT I NEVER WILL, NOR WILL I FORGIVE YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID!!"
My blood runs cold. Rose gets up. "I'm going to the can," she says sheepishly. The air is thick as the chocolate I enjoyed with her back when I was perfect, when I was another. Before the bloodbending came and flawed me. Back when the world was perfect as a crystaline lake at the Northern Air Temple, until the comet came and a drop of blood dripped into the lake, turning tranquility into calamity.
Back when the world was perfect...
Wendy's still fuming, little circles of smoke practically pulsing out of her ears. Her light okre hair seems to raise at a static. It's obvious she's wanted to say that for a long while.
Evan eyes the two of us, and then cooly slides out of his chair, pulls out a cigarette and gives us a little salute. "I'm gonna step outside for a little bit," he says, and then pauses when he sees us staring. "What?" He asks. "I need my daily puff."
Gwen nods, startled, as Evan pulls back the balcony door and steps into the cool night. The door closes with a rough 'swoosh.'
Gwen's mouth opens. "Since when-" she starts.
"Don't bother." I say. "It runs in the family."
Gwen nods, then takes a big yawn. " I'm gonna hit the sack now," she says, rising from her chair. She gives me an eyebrow. "You should too."
