My fingers twitch, melting the ice, water splashing to the ground. I pick it up, and funnel it back, half into a vase and half into my satchel. I'm still a little in shock. This is bad. Rose- no-why?-wha-ug-
It's dificult, trying to explain the things that happen at this very moment. From the emotions I feel, to how time seems to slow. How I can't really tell whether the thing that just happened was a bad thing or a good thing. See, I was always the more level-headed of the group. After I was as stubborn as to engage Evan in an open duel before he sold Rose and I to the FireLord, I vowed not to be so naive again. I became the mature one after that, and the calmer fighter since I got blood bending. Sure, Rose has her shadows, but with this sudden change in personalities, I'm not even sure if she can even access them anymore! Within 3 months, she's on her way to becoming a stronger waterbender than me. I no longer have any authority over her. Shamed as I am, I reveal to myself one truth:
I am jealous.
My vision goes a little unfocused, so I don't notice that Rose had bolted out the door in a mass of airbending, or that Evan had put her in a grip and is dragging her over back to our little hotel rooms. Her eyes are glowing fireballs against her wildish mess of golden hair and the surrounding beige walls. They lock with mine.
And now she's gasping like a fish, as Evan gently lowers her down and releases her. She lets out this strangled cry that sounds like, "A hand knee, fowl cheese!", but the original words are lost as she starts into a fit of coughing.
Evan shoots me a glance, then wiggles his eyebrows and mouths one word:
B*tch.
It took 3 months, but now Evan has convinced me.
Gwen comes in and gently guides Rose to a spare room. Once Evan leaves to the kitchen to get yet another snack, I find myself plunked on the couch, my head in my hands.
