Chapter 308

2 Hours Later - Cafeteria:
Matt's POV: As I sit in the cafeteria shortly after watching Gabby give birth to our daughters, I was so scared. They were born so early...and so small, I just needed a minute to wrap my heard around just what happened today. Gabby gave birth. Now, I'm sitting here...having an early lunch just to step away and take a breath. That's when I heard a familiar voice walk up behind me. "Matt?" Turning around, I saw it was Kelly. "What are you doing here?" I just went to get up and sighed as I went to hug him. "Long story. But I'm glad I'm here with you now." He agreed.

"Coming to visit us?" I shook my head. "You might want to sit down." Kelly then got worried when I told him that. "Oh no, man...tell me she's okay." I just looked up at him when he asked me that. "Oh, Gabby's fine." He agreed with me when I said that and just went to go sit down in front of me. I then took a breath, still really scared right now. "Then why are you here in the cafeteria as if you are a patient here?" I then took a breath and sighed as I went to go grab my phone. "That's because I am a patient here." Kelly looked at me when I said that. "She okay?"

I then smiled when he asked me that. "Depends which she you're talking about." Kelly just looked at me. "Not the time to joke man. I do not want to have to tell Stella that her best friend died." I stared at him when he said that. "Oh, you do not get to use that word for the next 7 months! I am not going to think about that." Kelly just looked at me when I yelled at him. "Okay, can you calm down? Man, you're acting crazy. What's happening?" Taking a breath, I just sighed and then went to go find the first picture that I have ever taken of Hannah and Sofia today.

"Meet your nieces." Going to give him my phone, I watched as Kelly looked at the screen. He then looked up at me, seemingly shocked. "Gabby..." I nodded and just took a breath when he asked me that. "Yeah. She had to give birth because of something called TTS." Kelly agreed with me when I told him that. "God, so that means that..." I nodded and agreed with him. "We have 4 kids now. And two of them are in critical condition." Kelly just looked at me when I told him that. "Dude, why didn't you call me? I would've came to support you while..." I then looked at him.

"While I was in surgery with my wife?" Kelly then realized that and nodded. "Shit, this is crazy." I agreed with him when he said that. "I am just glad that they have Gabby out cold right now. She's just resting in bed while trying to feel better. I swear, Gabby just can't have an easy birth." Kelly agreed with me when I told him that. "What time did she give birth?" I took a breath. "10:15 and 10:16." Kelly then went to look at the time. "Wow, 2 hours ago." I nodded and just took a breath, still really scared. "Dude, I can't loose them. I've already fallen in love with my girls."

Kelly agreed with me when I told him that. "How far along was she when she gave birth?" I sighed. "22 weeks. We have to spend the next 7 months here in the NICU...and I'm not leaving my girls. I basically told Antonio and his mom. Our boys are your responsibility for a little while. My job is to take care of Gabby. Oh god, my job...." That's when I heard Chief Walker and Boden walk over to us. "Is not something that you have to worry about." Looking up at my bosses, I took a breath and then went to get up. "Chief Walker, Chief Boden." I then shook their hands.

Walker then smiled at me. "Congratulations first of all Chief Casey. Two girls?" I nodded and agreed with him when he asked me that. "Gabby's asleep." He agreed with me when I told him that. "Makes sense, you're eating with your Captain. Congrats again on your boys Captain Severide." Severide then smiled as he got up and went to shake Chief Walker's hand. He then walked over to shake Boden's hand too. "How are you both?" Boden smiled at me. "We are both okay. But Casey, listen...don't worry about anything. I'm taking over the Battalion temporarily."

I agreed with Chief Boden when he told me that before going to hug him. "Thanks Chief." Boden agreed with me and just smiled. "How are your girls?" I took a breath and sighed. "They are 2 hours old...and in critical condition. God, they are so tiny and fragile. And then Gabby's fast asleep. Heck, I didn't even expect to see Severide." Kelly then took a breath. "The truth is, I already knew you were here. I'm in the room next to you. You just didn't see me because you were so distracted." I turned to look at him when he told me that. "More like petrified."

Kelly nodded and agreed with me when I told him that. "Right, that's when I meant to say." I nodded and agreed with him when he told me that. Chief Walker then smiled at me. "You've still got it Casey." I smiled and agreed with him before just looking at Boden. "Listen Boden, I am not sure how long I am going to be...." That's when Chief Walker spoke to me. "Casey, that's why I'm here." I agreed and looked at him. "Boden has filled me in on what's happened over the past few years. You lost a baby, you lost your mom, this is Gabby's second premature birth to twins..."

I agreed with him. "And that's all in the past 12 months apparently. So, here's what you're getting. Your paternity leave doesn't start until your family is home safe. And that's an order." I nodded and agreed with Chief Walker when he told me that. "I appreciate that Chief. Thank you so much." Walker then agreed with me and just smiled. "Now that we got the easy stuff out of the way...how about we get some names?" I laughed and agreed with him. "Hannah Grace and Sofia Maria Casey." Boden smiled when I said that. "I promise, the house is praying for you."

I nodded and agreed with Boden when he told me that, grateful that the house was praying for us. "Thanks Boden, I really appreciate that. But there's something else you can do for us..." Boden nodded. "If anybody wants to babysit for us...I am pretty sure that Antonio and my mother-in-law would be very appreciative if they could get a break." He agreed with me when I said that. "I'll talk to Herrmann and see if he and Cindy can help out." I smiled and agreed with him when he told me that. "I appreciate that so much. But a lot of prayers is helpful."

Walker agreed with me when I said that. "I'll start praying my rosary." I laughed and agreed with him when he said that. I then turned to look at Kelly. "I'm just glad that I have someone here by my side the entire time." Kelly agreed with me when I said that and just smiled at me. "I promise that I'm going to help you through this Matt. But only this time. I am not promising if you get Gabby pregnant again." I shook my head. "That's impossible...she's never going to get pregnant again. She's got her tubes tied." I then realized that I was sharing a bit too much to our bosses.

Turning my head, I looked at Boden. "Sorry." Boden laughed and agreed with me. "Trust me when I say this Matt...I'm pretty sure that we know how intimate you got with Gabby in the firehouse." I laughed and agreed with him when he told me that. "Wait, you heard..." Boden agreed with me. "My office was on the other side of the shower." I then realized that and just agreed with him. "Right, of course. Sorry Chief." Chief laughed and agreed with me when I said that. "Listen, you need to relax and just head back to your wife." I agreed with him.

Kelly then smiled at me. "Maybe I can come visit after lunch?" I shook my head. "I'd rather not yet man. Heck, I want to be alone with Gabby right now." Kelly agreed with me when I said that and just smiled at me. "Of course, sorry. But listen, let's finish so you can head back to your  girls." I nodded and agreed with him. "Talk later Chief." Chief agreed with me when I said that before walking away. Meanwhile, I just went to finish eating so that I could make my way back to Gabby and our girls."
