Chapter 336

Matt's POV:
As I made my way back inside with Gabby, I smiled as I walked over to see my sister getting ready to go. And of course Violet was as well because she is leaving with her mom. "I hear that someone's tapping out." Christie laughed when I said that and smiled. "Don't worry, I'll be over this weekend to see your kids." I looked at her. "Just to see my kids?" Christie then went to punch my shoulder. "Shut up. You know I'm coming to celebrate your birthday as a family too." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that. "You need to reply to my text more." 

Christie agreed with me when I told her that. "I know, you're starting to get worried because of that bug aren't you?" I nodded and agreed with her when she asked me that. "I know, I'm just your brother and I'm not dad but..." Christie just understood and smiled. "I'm all you have left when it comes to me and mom." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that. "Oh by the way...we need to figure out a time for us to go to the cemetery. We couldn't go on her anniversary since you were in the hospital. So, you owe me." I nodded and agreed.

"I promise, I'll figure out a day. Maybe just let us get in a routine with our kids...and then we can go as a family. I want to introduce my kids to their grandparents." Christie agreed with mem when I told her that and smiled. "I love that idea. But as much as I want to stay..." I understood and smiled when she said that, going to give her one last hug. I then smiled at Violet. "Hey, you promise to start texting me. And remember that if someone bugs you...I will come defend you." Violet smiled and agreed with me. "Thanks uncle Matt." I nodded and agreed with her.

"Know that I support you okay? I love you and that's all that matters." Violet nodded and smiled when I said that. "Thanks uncle Matt. Wish you were as accepting as my dad." I then turned to look at my sister. "Oh, we will be talking about that." Christie sighed and agreed with me when I said that. "Right, of course." I smiled and agreed with her when she said that. "Let's get going Violet." Violet nodded and agreed with her mom when she said that. "Sorry mom." Christie agreed with Violet when she said that. They then went to walk off. Meanwhile, I smiled at Gabby.

Going to walk up to her, I smiled as I went to wrap my arm around her before kissing her softly. "How are you feeling? You tired?" Gabby shook her head when I asked her that. "I'm fine Matt. We can stay for a while." I nodded and just smiled when she said that, going to kiss her forehead softly. "Listen, I'm not even sure who I'm going to be talking to next." Gabby agreed with me. "How about we go talk to your boss. I just saw that District Chief Walker is here." Turning around, I was shocked when I saw him here. "Oh, I didn't see him. I'll be right back." Gabby agreed.

Going to walk away, I smiled as I went to walk away so that I could go talk to Boden and Walker. "Well, I didn't expect to see you here Chief Walker." Walker then turned to look at me and smiled. "Well, of course I'm going to come say happy birthday to one of my chiefs." I smiled and agreed with him when he said that before going to walk over to the bar. "Donna works tomorrow, that's why she's not here." Going to sit next to walker, I smiled. "Hey Herrmann, can you get me a Coors Light?" Herrmann agreed with me when I said that and just smiled. "Sure thing Matt." 

That's when I turned to look at Walker and sighed. "Listen, I know that it's my birthday but...do you guys mind if I can talk to you guys about work?" Boden looked at me when I said that. "What's up Matt?" I sighed and then looked at her. "I know, I know that I'm on paternity leave but..." Boden laughed. "You still read your e-mails." I sighed when Boden asked me that. "It's about the stuff that we've been sending about this pandemic they are warning about?" Boden sighed when I asked him that, obviously not really wanting to talk about it.

Boden's POV:
When Matt mentioned the pandemic they are talking about, I just sighed because I knew that this was going to be coming up at some point between the two of us. I then looked at him. "How are you doing with this?" Matt sighed when I asked him that. "You obviously know that I'm worried. I mean, we just got out of the hospital with the girls." Walker agreed with Matt when he said that. "How are they doing?" Matt smiled and just laughed. "They are doing great and are real angels." I nodded and agreed with him when he told me that.

"You are so lucky. Terrence was not the best at night." Matt nodded and agreed with me when I told him that. "Okay, so back to what I was talking about...uhm, what's going on with that." I then went to look at him. "Yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. I just didn't want to do it tonight on your birthday." Matt agreed with me when I told him that. "And I know that you have young kids but...the CFD board has been saying that, if this pans out...then we are going to need all hands on deck." Matt just looked at me when I said that. "Meaning..."

I nodded and agreed with Matt when he asked me that and just sighed. "Unfortunately." Matt nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "Matt, I promise that I'll try and keep you out as much as possible. However, if it comes down to it..." Matt just nodded when I said that. "I'll talk to Gabby and tell her. I'm sure that she'll understand." I agreed with him. "Thanks Matt. I promise that we are going to put you last. Heck, maybe I can get Severide certified quickly to keep you out for a while." Matt nodded and agreed with me when I said that.

"Uhm, I am going to go back outside for a minute. Tell Gabby for me?" I nodded and agreed with him when he said that and just sighed. I knew that this was going to be hard for him. I hope that I didn't push him away. Turning to look at Walker, I sighed. "That didn't go down that well." Walker agreed with me. "Maybe we should just let him have his paternity leave. I saw how worried he was at the hospital. I'm sure that he's going to be just as worried right now." I nodded and agreed with my boss when he told me that before taking a breath, feeling really bad for Matt.
