Meanwhile, at the District with Deputy Sgt. Halstead:
Jay's POV: As I sit in my office shortly after getting back from the CPD academy with Rex, I sigh considering I missed the briefing. Trying to catch up, I smiled when I felt Erin put her hands on my shoulders. "You look stressed." Going to put my hand on hers, I smiled as I looked up at her and nodded. "Yeah. I just got berated by your father." Erin then took a breath when I said that. "For what exactly?" I then sighed as I turned to look at her. "Being late." Erin then looked at me. "You mean to the district?" I nodded and agreed with him. "He's in a mood. I didn't bother."

Erin just looked at me when I said that. "Jay, why did you just take it. You already told him that you were going to be late." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. "Yeah, he doesn't get that." Going to turn to my laptop, I went to go read this report from the latest cyber case that I'm working on with Adam. Hank has let me take some extra cases as long as they don't distract from our main case on a weekly basis. "So, not only am I stressed from work...but now I have stress from your father for doing my job. The commissioner demanded he get certified."

Erin agreed with me when I said that before going to sit at her desk that she has here in my office. "And did you try and explain this to Hank?" I sighed when she asked me that. "He wouldn't hear it. He says that I should've been here and that I can go to training on the weekend. I didn't argue because it's his damn fault for realizing that today was Rex's final test. You know...because I would much rather go do a test to get my dog CPD certified than spend time with my kids whom I'm away from for hours on end." I then shook my head and read some more.

"Jay, did you tell him?" I shook my head. "Not my damn job to remember the fact that I had to do a certification exam. Oh and I just walked out of there when he mentioned that what I did is not what a dad does." Erin looked at me when I said that. "Wait a second...did you just say that he questioned your ability to be a good father?" I looked at Erin when she told me that. "Erin, don't get in the middle of this." Erin just shook her head when I said that before going to walk out of my office and towards Hank's office. Getting up, I set my papers down to follow her.

Looking at Rex, I smiled. "Stay boy." He agreed with me and just went to lay his head back down. Meanwhile, I went to walk towards Hank's office to hear Erin yelling at him. Turning to look at the unit, I sighed. "Back to your cases. This doesn't concern you all." They all agreed with me when I told them that. "Of course." That's when I walked in. "SERIOUSLY HANK! You yell at him when he does something that he was ordered to do by the CPD!" Hank then went to defend himself. "He was late, that always gets a reprimand. I would do the same to you." I sighed.

"Hank, did you even read the documentation that I gave to you this morning?" Hank then laughed. "You mean the documentation to clear you to teach a course? I am not signing it." I then took a breath and went to put my hand on Erin's back. "Breathe babe." Erin agreed with me. "Nope, it's the legal documents that you need." Hank was confused when I said that. "What do you mean?" I then looked at him. "How about you actually open the documents and see what they are?" Going to grab the envelope, he went to (finally) open the documentation.

Going to look at them, he finally saw what they were. "Oh god, was that this morning?" I nodded and agreed with him when he asked me that. "Yes. Rex's final exam was today." Hank agreed with me when I said that and took a breath. "I'm so sorry Halstead. I completely forgot." Erin then smiled as she came to walk over to me, wrapping her arms around my waist. "I think you owe Jay a better apology than what considering that he had to give up today." Hank was confused when I said that. "What do you mean?" Erin then looked up at me, smiling.

"Jay had to give up time with the kids this morning to go do the test." I nodded and agreed with her, going to kiss her forehead softly before smiling at her. "Still glad that I did it." Erin nodded and smiled when I told her that. "Me too. Congratulations to both you and Rex." I nodded and agreed with her before going to lean down. Kissing her, I smiled as I took it slow with Erin. "Thanks." Erin then just smiled at me. "Listen, now that this is cleared up...I think that we have a case to work on?" I agreed with Erin when she told me that and just nodded. "Yes, yes we do."

Going to look at Hank, I smiled at him. "Am I dismissed?" Hank then looked at Erin. "Erin, can I have a minute with Jay?" Erin agreed with him when he said that. "I'll be working in your office." I nodded and agreed with her when she told me that, watching her walk away. Meanwhile, I went to look at Hank and just took a breath. "Halstead, I'm really sorry. I completely forgot." I agreed with him when he said that. "Hank, this isn't fair. You tell me to do things so that I can get the all clear to work with Rex here at the district...then you yell at me for being late."

Hank agreed with me when I told him that and just smiled at me. "I'm sorry okay?" I nodded and agreed with him when he told me that. "I appreciate that. But no more of this okay?" He agreed with me and just smiled when I told him that. That's when he saw Rex walk into his office. "Congratulations Rex." Rex then went to bark and I just laughed. "Go ahead Hank, you can pet him." Hank nodded and agreed with me when I told him that. Walking up to Rex, he smiled as he bent down and then went to go rub his head. "So, he's a certified police dog now right?" I agreed.

"Yes. Officially, he's a member of the CPD's K-9 Unit. However, they've assigned him to work intelligence with me as his handler." Hank agreed with me when I said that and nodded. "Hey, one more way we can catch the bad guys." I laughed and agreed with him when he told me that. "Yes, yes he is. Now listen...I need to catch up on the case." Hank agreed with me before walking over to the door. He then went to look at Antonio. "Dawson!" Antonio looked up at him when he called his name. "What's up Sarg?" Hank then looked at him. "Help Erin get Jay up to speed."

Antonio agreed with Hank when he said that before going to get his documents in order. "Thanks again Hank. We will talk about this later." He agreed and just nodded.
***********************************************************************

Walking with Antonio from Hank's office to mine, he turned to look at me. "Can you tell me why exactly he was mad at you?" I sighed when he asked me that. "He was mad that I was late when I needed to be at the CPD academy this morning." Antonio looked at me when I said that. "Why?" I then smiled. "Meet the newest official member of CPD intelligence." I then went to look at Rex (who looked up at me). "Down boy." He agreed and did as he was told. "Wait, his exam was today?" I nodded and agreed with him when he asked me that. "Yeah, and he passed."

Antonio smiled and agreed with me. "Okay, so what do we have on the cyber case we're working?" Antonio then smiled at me as he went to sit down and opened the case file. "So, we've finally figured out what they are attacking." I nodded and agreed with him. "They've been attacking the RTA." I nodded and agreed with him when he said that. "What parts of the RTA?" Antonio then sighed. "All of them." I was shocked when he said that. "CTA, Metra and Pace?" Antonio agreed with me when I asked him that. "More specifically, the Ventra card system."

I agreed with him and sighed when he said that. "And is the network still up and running right now?" Antonio shook his head. "It's down as of right now." Going to reach out for the case file, I got Antonio to give it to me so that I could read it. "Wow, this is quite widespread." Antonio agreed with me when I said that. "They mostly hacked in the Chicago area so, we have jurisdiction. But they are stealing funds from the Ventra cards." I agreed with him when he said that. "What line has the most ridership?" Antonio smiled. "BNSF." I agreed with him.

"I would start with that line to tell you the truth. If that one is impacted the most, then maybe we can get more data from the cards." Going to turn my chair, I went to look on my computer. "Do we know when the hacking started?" Antonio agreed. "Last Saturday." I looked at him when he said that. "Has Hank already done a subpoena?" Antonio was confused when I said that. "For what?" I then sighed as I went to get up. "Excuse me." Antonio just agreed with me when I said that. Going to walked out of my office to look at Hank. "Okay, this is where we have missions?"

I then took a breath. "Hey Hank?" Hank then turned to look at me. "Find something Halstead?" I nodded and agreed with him. "We need to put out a BOLO to let people know that their funds may have been affected. This has been happening since Saturday. Millions of people ride on this every day. This about what might happen. What if they are taking a percentage of every fare?" Hank then agreed with me when I said that. "Smart thinking." I agreed and nodded when he said that. That's when Erin looked at me and just smiled. "Want to go to Metra HQ to tell them?"

Hank agreed with Erin when she said that. "Halsteads, go." I agreed with him and just nodded as I went to walk back over to our office. "C'mon Rex, work time." Getting up, Rex came to run after me and just smiled as we went to leave. Grabbing my jacket, I laughed and agreed his leach and some bags before looking at Erin as we both walked out of the office and then towards the stairs to go out to the truck.
