Chapter 307

30 minutes later - Gaffney-Lakeshore Medical Center:
Matt's POV:
As me and Gabby made our way to the hospital, I took a breath as we both walked in so that we could make our way up to our doctors' office. Looking at Gabby, I went to wrap my arm around her shoulders and then went to kiss the side of her head. She was scared and to tell you the truth...so was I. I think the last time I was this scared was when we gave birth to the boys. I mean...she almost died that day. But now, it's like history is repeating itself. Moving to grab her hand, I went to intertwine our fingers and smiled at Gabby. "How are you feeling?"

Gabby took a breath as she looked at me. "I'm not sure really...I feel scared and as if something life changing is going to happen today." I agreed with Gabby when she told me that. "Anything you are specifically thinking of?" Gabby shrugged. "All I know is that...last night I had a dream which told me that they'll survive." I got scared when she said that. "What do you think that means?" Gabby shrugged when I asked her that. "I'm only 22 weeks pregnant Matt. I can't be giving birth today." I turned to look at Gabby when she said that. "Wait, you think that..."

Gabby just got scared when I asked that. Getting close to me, she nodded and then came to wrap her arms around me. "Matt, I'm scared." I nodded and agreed with Gabby when she told me that. "This can't be what's happening. Gabby, there has to be another explanation. I refuse to believe that you are going to have to give birth this early again." Gabby agreed with me when I said that. "I hope not." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. "Matt, I hate to say this but...who are you picking if it comes down to it." I was shocked when Gabby asked me that.

"Hey, don't you dare think that way." Gabby agreed with me when I said that. "But to answer your question...I'm picking you. Gabby, I love our daughters...but I can't loose you. I love you too much!" Gabby agreed with me when I told her that and just smiled at me. She then came to wrap her arms around me, obviously very scared as I went to hold her close to me. "I promise Gabby that everything is going to be okay. You are safe in my arms." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I told her that. Still, I could tell that she was extremely scared of that possibility.

Just going to lean back, I went to grab her hand and then intertwined our fingers. Going to kiss her, I went to take it slow with her because I wanted to make her feel better. She can't think this way...she needs to think positive. This is not the end of her pregnancy. She is going to stay pregnant for a little longer...she has to. "Gabby, I want you to know that I'm here. Whatever happens." Gabby agreed with me when I told her that before going to wrap her arms around my waist. "I love you Matt." I smiled and agreed with Gabby when she told me that. "I love you too."

Going to kiss her forehead softly, I went to put my hand on her arm and just smiled at me. "I promise that everything is going to be okay." Going to grab her hand again, I took a breath as we both proceeded to make our way to our doctors' office so that Gabby could get checked in. "Hi." The secretary then looked up at us and smiled. "Gabriela Casey for Dr. Asher?" That's when we heard Dr. Asher come out. "Gabby, come right back." I turned to look at her when she said that. "You came out to get us personally?" She agreed with me. "I cleared my schedule. Come in."

Gabby seemed shocked when she said that. "You cleared your schedule for us?" Dr. Asher agreed with Gabby when she asked us that. "I had a bad feeling for some reason." Gabby agreed with Dr. Asher before going to follow her. Still holding her hand, I went to intertwine our fingers because Gabby was really scared. That's when Gabby turned to look at me and just came to wrap her arm around me. "We're in this together...I promise Gabby." Gabby smiled and agreed with me when I told her that before leading me towards the hospital room to get checked on.

Gabby's POV:
After making our way into a hospital room so that I could get checked out by Dr. Asher, I just took a breath because I knew that regardless of what happens...me being this stressed is not good for anybody. I need to stay calm for our girls. God, I want these babies to survive and I am so scared that we're going to loose them before we can even meet them. With me already on the bed (with my shirt lifted), I was taking deep breaths because I needed to bring my heartrate down. Dr. Asher put a heartrate monitor on me...and I could tell it was sky high because I was a paramedic.

That's when I felt Matt sit down next to me. Grabbing my hand, he went to kiss it and just looked at me. Turning my head, I smiled at him and went to stroke his hand. "Matt, promise me that everything is going to be okay?" Matt nodded and agreed with me when I asked him that. "Hey, take a breath for me and just relax Gabby. I promise that everything is going to be okay." I smiled and agreed with Matt when he told me that. That's when Dr. Asher came to walk up to us. "I'm sure that you're right Matt. But how about we check just to be sure?" I agreed with her, smiling.

Going to put some gel on my stomach, Dr. Asher went to start doing an ultrasound. "There are the pretty girls." Going to look at them, I started to breathe. However, I could see that Dr. Asher was quite concerned. "Dr. Asher, I'm a paramedic. I know that you are concerned...what's wrong?" Unfortunately, that got Matt worried and he just looked at Dr. Asher. "I am not going to say anything until I'm certain." I agreed. "Now listen, I am just going to run some tests. I already had an idea based on what you told me you were experiencing. Let me just check for you."

I agreed with her when she told me that, feeling really scared right now. Turning to look at Matt. "Matt, I'm scared." Matt nodded and agreed with me when I told him that. "Hey, I'm right here for you Gabby. I promise." I agreed with him when Dr. Asher came back with some gloves. "Here, I need to check some things. First...how fast has your stomach been growing?" I smiled when she asked me that. "It's amazing how fast it grew this time around." Dr. Asher then bit her lip. "Gabby, I don't want to alarm you but...that's not a good think." Me and Matt then looked at her.

"Gabby, I think what's happening...is that your girls are suffering from TTTS or Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome." I got scared when she said that. "That means that one of your girls are getting more amniotic fluid that your other girl. There's also abnormalities in blood flow." I got really scared when she said that because I Knew that those phrases together were never a good thing. "So one of your girls is getting more blood than she needs, while the other is getting less blood than she needs." Matt then got scared. "is there a way to fix it?" Dr. Asher bit her lip.

"Unfortunately not...Gabby, you're also fully dilated." Matt just got scared. "WHAT!" Dr. Asher agreed. "Matt, go get scrubbed. Unfortunately, we have to take Gabby into surgery to give birth." I was shocked when she said that. "No, no...they'll die." Dr. Asher shook her head. "Gabby, we have no alternative. Listen, you trust me with your sons last time...I need you to trust me with your daughters now." I agreed with her and nodded. "Okay." Turning to look at Matt, I saw him get up and then went to grab my hand. Leaning over me, he went to kiss my forehead.

Turning his head, he went to kiss me softly. "Hey, I'm right here...I promise." I nodded and agreed with him when he said that. "Matt, I'm scared." Matt agreed with me. "Gabby, I'm not leaving. Dr. Asher is also going to put your life first. Sorry but, I'm not loosing you. We can find another way to have our girls....we can do this." I agreed with him and nodded. Turning to look at Dr. Asher, I was just scared. "Dr. Asher, can you tie my chords while you're in there." Dr. Asher agreed. "Of course. I promise that I'll be there every step of the way. Now, let's get you ready."

We both agreed with Dr. Asher when she said that, really scared right now.
