Y/n's POV:
It was finally Saturday and I was routing my way through my wardrobe, trying to find something to wear for dinner with Scarlett and Lizzie. It was only going to be at Lizzie's house, but I still wanted to dress to impress.
I had seen Scarlett a couple of times this week. She had popped by keeping us supplied with soup and happily entertained Ava whilst she was here. I could watch them together all day. Some of the only times I saw Ava smile, whilst she was sick, was when Scarlett was over. It turned out that Ava had the flu and was pretty ill for a few days. I kept her off school for the week so she could fully recover and not spread it to the other kids. Thankfully Sophie and I were able to avoid it ourselves.
Luckily, I was able to take some time off to look after Ava. I still had to attend the important meetings but was able to do this from home. I was dreading going to work next week as I knew I'd have a lot to catch up on. We are sending our initial delegation out to Afghanistan on Wednesday, so I need to make sure I'm up to speed for their briefing before they go. So, it's safe to say, that dinner tonight is much needed!
Now that Ava was feeling better, she was looking forward to spending the evening with Sophie. They were going to the cinema and then grabbing dinner themselves. I can already see the sugar high that both of them are going to be on this evening, but lucky for me I won't have to deal with getting the little monkey into bed!
So back to me frantically trying to find something to wear. I've got to leave in half an hour and I'm still sat around in my shorts and bra. "What is taking you so long Y/n/n?" Sophie asked as she made her way into my bedroom. "Y/N! You're not even dressed yet!" She exclaimed taking a seat on my bed.
I just looked up at her with slight panic. "I have no idea what I'm going to wear Soph. You know I'm rubbish at this sort of thing." I stress. She starts chuckling to herself which doesn't help me with my nerves. "Hey! Soph, stop it. It's not funny." I complain, slumping down on the floor in the middle of the clothes I had already discarded.
Sophie sighs and gets up off the bed. "It's only dinner. Just go for some nice trousers and a shirt. How about the red chinos and that white pinstriped shirt there?" She suggested, grabbing the garments out of the closet. "That actually looks good." I respond grabbing the hanger and quickly throwing on the clothes. "See perfect, you look hot, but not over the top." Soph said, straightening out my clothes for me.
"If you roll your sleeves up it'll look better and show off your wrist tattoo." Sophie suggested whilst starting to roll the sleeves for me. As she finished, she carefully runs her finger over the tattoo. It's a red poppy with the stem being replaced with black cursive writing 'Capt Ben Richards 1987-2012'
(Just imagine there's the text instead of the stem)
"I can't believe it has nearly been three years." She said still looking down at the tattoo. I hummed in response. Sophie and Dicky were the closest people I had to family. Losing him was one of the hardest things I've had to go through, and it was still difficult for me to talk about.
