Y/N is a Major in the British Army on a long term posting to Fort Isaac in LA. After a visit to the park with her daughter Ava, a chance meeting with Scarlett Johannson and Elizabeth Olsen will change their lives forever. With drama, obsticales and...
Ava was sat on the sofa watching Peppa Pig for the fifth time today. Thank God I was able to get the DVD box set of that show or I think she would have refused to move to American without them. I could hear her muttering along to the episode as I sat polishing up my shoes ready for the dinner tonight. My unform was hanging on the door frame, perfectly ironed, buttons and medals gleaming.
As the episode ended Ava crawled over to me as I finished up my shoes. I placed them on the floor and turned to pull Ava on to my lap. "What's up bug?" I asked as she snuggled into my body. "Why are you cleaning your uniform? Are you going away again?" She looked up at me and it broke my heart.
I had been lucky and only been deployed once since Ava was born, a 5 month deployment to Afghanistan when she was two. Although I'm sure she doesn't remember it, she's always been concerned that I may go away for a long time again. I wrap my arms around her small body and pull her in close.
"No baby, I'm not going away. This is my mess dress. I wear this when we have fancy parties and dinners to attend. Missy is going to be picking you up any minute where you're going to have a sleep over and go to the play park tomorrow whilst i go and have a boring dinner!" She shoots up in my lap in excitement. "Yay! I love Missy." She runs off my lap towards her bedroom bring her teddy out. "I can't forget to take Mr Snuggles!" I laugh as she sits on the end of the sofa watching the door for Missy to turn up.
As soon as she got comfortable, there was a knock at the door. I walk over and open the door to see Missy with a wide grin. "Where's my favourite little girl?" She asks walking straight past me lifting Ava into a tight hug. "Hi Y/n so nice to see you. Oh Missy, it's lovely to see you too." I mimic as she turns laughing at me then pulling me into a hug. "Sorry Y/n. Hi, good to see you. I'm just excited for a weekend with this little one."
"I'll forgive you as you are doing me a favour in taking her this weekend." I say turning to Ava's room and grab her overnight bag and walk back into the lounge and towards Missy. "No, you're doing Jimmy a favour, this is the least I can do. I know it's changed your plans for your weeks leave."
"That's ok, I enjoy the charity dinners, I just wish the timing was better. Anyway, if you need anything, just give me a call. Everything should in her bag." I say handing over the bag and turn to Ava to say goodbye. I kneel down, placing my hands on her shoulders.
"Ok love, you be a good girl for Missy. Anything she says goes. I'll pick you up tomorrow afternoon and then we've got a whole week to hang out just us." I plant a soppy kiss on her cheek and squeeze her tightly. "Ewww Mummy, that's gross." She giggles wiping her cheeky.
She can't stay pretend mad at me for long before she jumps back into my arms to give me another hug. "Bye Mummy. Have fun at your party." I watch as the pair walk down the corridor towards the elevator and wave as the door closes on them. Back in my apartment I jump in the shower before getting ready in my uniform for the night ahead.
