I awoke with a blazing headache and laying next to Beverly who looked like she was blacked out. My phone, it kept ringing non stop. 8:30, why the fuck is someone calling me so early? I rolled over reaching for my phone that was on the floor. "Hello?" I answered rubbing on my forehead, even my own voice was killing me.
"Dr. Romano? We have an emergency." I sighed loudly. "To be honest... i don't really care because I'm not the only neurosurgeon there." I told whoever was on the phone. They sound nervous and sleepy as well. "I know but she wants you, and if she doesn't get the surgery today she could hemorrhage." I can't stand this shit today. "Okay I'm on my way."
I dropped my phone back on the floor and laid in bed for a minute more before getting up and walking to my room. I have no memory of last night from the moment I got out of work to right about now. God my head won't stop spinning. I quickly brushed my teeth while I threw a coat over top the dress I had on from last night.
I couldn't find my shoes so I put my heels back on in Beverly's room. "Hey I'm leaving." I said waking her up. "Just don't drive." She slurred. " I won't, I love you." I said lying on the first half. I went down stairs and found my keys in her bag which sat next to mine and grabbed a water bottle to down these four Advil's.
I had to keep blinking rapidly just to see the road a little bit and my heart was racing praying I didn't get pulled over. And when I got to the hospital I almost fell getting out of my car, just my luck.
Walking in I bumped into Jocelyn. The one person that has my side in this hospital and the one person I would trust with my life if it came down to it all. "Morning sunshine." She said walking up stairs with me. "Have fun last night?" She asked trying help with the messy hair I had on my head right now. "I don't know I don't remember me even leaving here last night." I told her before pulling one of the nurses a side with us as she laughed.
"What patient was I called in to meet? Something about her wanting me to operate and her close to a hemorrhage." I asked the nurse, and she looked at me confused. "You have no patients, you called out last night saying you wouldn't be here chief. And no emergency patients either." She said kindly.
"But you do have someone in your office waiting for you chief." She said before walking off. Jocelyn and I kept walking and I felt so lost. "By the way your acting I'm going to say you had a lot of fun, and with out me." She rolled her eyes at me. "Yeah lets see how much of that fun I'll ever remember." I told her before walking into my office and she walked into a patients room.
My blood boiled when I realized who was standing in front of me. "Francesca, my love, my dove. Hiding from your mother?" She asked looking me up and down like I crawled out of a dumpster. "What in gods name happened to you?" She said looking at me with her eye brows furrowed. "Ma. Please tell me you didn't fake an emergency just to get to me." I said interlocking my hands behind my back and tilting my head to the side.
"Okay I'm your patient." She said looking at her nails. "No your not mom." I said closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. "Okay so what if I did fake an emergency?" She said and I scoffed as she kept talking and throwing in lies as she did. "Ma." I said quietly but she kept on talking.
"Ma, that shits not fucking funny. Are you insane, making people call my phone to tell me that I have a patient on her death bed if I don't get out of my bed." I screamed at her, knowing my face turned red and my stance getting sloppy from being dizzy. She looked at me with a soft smile.
"Take it down a notch, your words aren't to important for you to be losing your balance." She told me. Vanessa I love you and all but I'm going to put my hands on you. I walked out of the office fixing my coat remembering the dress I have on.
She followed me out. "Francesca I'm not chasing you round this hospital and I don't have all day." I stopped in my tracks to face her. "But you had all morning to be playing on my phone?" She sighed rolling her eyes and fixing the fake-fur coat she had sitting on her shoulders. "Can you get in there? We have somewhere to be and I don't want your... rats listing." She said looking at the people who were walking in the hospital.
She dragged me by the hair like she would when I was being stubborn like her. "So." She started looking out of the window view of Venice. I took a seat as my head was still spinning with my face tucked in my crossed arms laid in the table. "Your aunt, my shamed sister is getting married." I laughed her words so hard my laughing turned into coughing. "Isn't this her 11th husband?" I asked as I looked up and she turned to look at me.
"I said 'shamed' no? Anyways, I can't be bitter and she wants you and Gio there." I hit my head on the back of my chair. "I barely know the woman. Vanni probably won't even show his face for more than 20 minutes." I complained to her.
"I was planning on just showing my face for 20 seconds, but I guess we can do 20 minutes." She crossed her hands over her chest and cleared her throat. "It's tomorrow." I looked at her like she was dumb and made an excuse. "I don't have a dress."
"Your wearing one right now Francesca. Probably out with Beverly, Is she back?" I discarded her question knowing she wasn't a fan of Beverly taking me out. "My dresses are going out dresses." I told her as my foot started tapping the floor.
"Good thing it's and outside wedding."
