King's point of view.
"Francesca?" I called out as I walked into the house. All the lights were off but her car was in the garage. "Baby?" I called out again. I walked to the back of the house and saw her in the pool with several charts in front of her and a candle lit beside her work. She was standing in the pool looking through the pages as I leaned against the patio door and watched her. It's been a week since she's told me she's pregnant yet my heart is still racing. Her lips nude, cheeks pink, and her dark brown hair curled naturally down her back. Francesca was the bane of my existence and she was perfect.
"Are those flowers for me or are you still creeping?" She didn't look at me and only took a sip of the sparking water next to her. "If creeping means watching you, I think I'm still creeping." I told her as I fixed the bouquet of baby breath flowers. I walked over to the edge of the pool and sat down in front of her, handing her the flowers. She smelled them and held them in her arms as she looked up to me. "Is this your way of apologizing for the bloody knuckles? Or maybe you're apologizing for telling me you're going to get food then come back hours later with no food." She asked and I laughed, slipping my hands into the pocket of my hoodie. "I was just tying up loose ends. And I'll cook you dinner." The sun was setting into a nice orange sunset, leading me to realize I really lost track of time.
"You've been tying loose ends for a week now. I can't pull you out, can I?" She was not worried but irritated with my fate. "I promised you I'd get out, but it's not that easy, doc." She rubbed her forehead in annoyance. "Today was the last day, last body." It's true, for now. That was the last body on my conscience but for how long? I haven't gone longer than three weeks without a threat. I don't expect anyone of the people I deal with to throw me a fucking gender reveal and tell Francesca, congrats.
She sighed and looked down at the flowers in her arms then the charts and brain scans between us. "What's all this?" I asked, picking up one of the scans, and not understanding what I was looking at. "Gerald, male, 31." I put the scan down and paid attention to her as she spoke. "He has this crazy tumor that started in his spinal cord and grew it way up to his temporal and parietal lobe. It just now started to affect his walking, speaking, and arm movements. And I don't think there's any way to remove it without him ending up paralyzed neck down, but if I do nothing he's dead in four weeks or less."
Dr. Francesca Romano. Someone who would rather end it all before letting anyone walk out, unhealthy. She breaks herself so others walk. She deserves more than some fake glass award. At this moment she deserves a break. I know she won't take one willingly so, I tag along and make sure she doesn't jump off the deep end. "Tell me doc, what do you want to eat?" She smiled and handed me back the flowers. "Put these in water and I want Alfredo pasta, with steak." I stood up and bowed, making my way to the kitchen. On my way Bear came running down the steps and followed me to the kitchen. She laid in front of the fridge and played with her ball.
I spent an hour in the kitchen making her request as perfect as I could. I snuck Bear a few pieces of steak before we walked our way to Francesca who was now swimming around in the deep end. "I still can't believe you left living in the hills all by yourself to live in a seven bedroom villa home." She laughed and swam to me as I sat down next to Bear. She jumped out of the pool and walked over to get her towel on the chair. Her pretty skin dripped in water as the moonlight beamed off her. She wrapped herself in the towel and sat in front of us. "Villa's were Giovanni's favorite type of homes. He was an architect, after our father." She took the plate of food out of my hand and smiled at me, and thanked me. "I'm sure he was great, villas are hard to design." Bear sat down and laid her head in my lap. She fed me some of her food and I watched as she reminisced about him.
"So this is us?" She asked. I looked around and nodded. "My wife is a beautiful and successful surgeon and I am a stay at home dad?" I chuckled. "No you're not actually." She took a big bite of food and covered her mouth as I looked at her. "I missed your birthday last year." She said, "And taking a page out of Reid's book, my gift is better." She smirked. "I don't want a gift. I found you. My everything, I finally found you." I laid my hand on Bear's stomach as Francesca tried to hide a smile. "50 acres." She placed her plate down and clapped her hands together as I looked at her confused. "I bought three 16 acre lands in three towns, so you can build clubs and manage that."
"Because I love you." She put her arms out and I leaned in hugging her tight. I pulled her in like I had nothing else. "Promise?" I whispered in her ear. " I promise." She kissed me and I kissed back. I moved Bear off me and leaned over top Francesca. "Thank you, doc." She smiled and ran her hand through my hair. "Speaking of Reid, what did you tell him?" I asked laying on her as she wrapped her legs around me. "I wasn't going to tell you about the blood test so soon. But I had to tell someone." He knew. I should've known by him teasing me on being old all this week. "But the question is what did he tell me."
She said holding my face. "Which was?" I asked. "He told me how to get out the contract." It took me a moment to realize she was talking about marriage. "The contract moves to the hospital here since the other is for lyn, right?"
"Are you asking me to marry you because you love me or because you want out of the contract?" I asked through a smirk. "Does it matter?" She teased. "It does because if it's out of love, you beat me to it." Her smirk dropped. "If it's to get out of the contract, I'd still marry you because it's you."
"I beat you to it?" She asked, looking in my eyes. "You really think I haven't been thinking about marrying you doc?" She shrugged. "When you fall asleep, I ask you to marry me a thousand times before I fall asleep. I've gotten in so much practice yet I still don't know how to ask." She brushed her lips against mine. "Let me help you." she mumbled.
"King De'luca, you have brought the best and worst times into my life and I want more best and worst with you. So I ask for your hand in marriage, out of love and care for you. Because I promise you all of me for the rest of our lives. I promise you anything you ask of me. King, will you marry me?" As I looked down on the love of my life I saw what I've been missing. She was the girl to make me feel like.. She was the girl to make me feel. I could lose everything right now right here. Just not her.
"Yes." I said against her lips as I kissed her she tried to flip me under her to get on top but we only ended up in the water. Not once did I let go as we dipped under water. We came back up and Bear jumped in after us. Her laugh was beautiful as she held onto me. Bear swam in circles next to us and after one last kiss she pulled away and swam to Bear. I pulled off my hoodie and put it outside the pool. Here with her I now see why our hearts had to be broken. Becasse if not how would our hearts be bound? "I love you, King" She said laughing as Bear jumped up to her.
Oh Francesca, I love you more than anything.
