Francesca's point of view.
"Okay but what if I want to drive?" I argued. "You can't. I won't let you." He shoved the keys in his pocket. "Give me the keys." I put my hand out." No. Your spot is in the passenger seat, I won't have you doing extra work for no reason." I said nothing and kept my hand out waiting for the keys. He shrugged and leaned on the car. "I guess we're not going home." He taunted. I looked around the hospital parking lot and saw it was decently empty. I leaned in to him and pressed my body to his. I slid my hand down his chest and he leaned down brushing his lips to mine. "Please?" I asked again, moving my hand over his belt. He kissed me and pulled his hands out of his pockets and pulled me in, allowing me to slip my hands in and grab the keys to the truck.
He rolled his eyes and huffed as I joyfully unlocked the doors. He turned to watch me as I got into the driver's seat. My joyful smile faded into a frown when my feet couldn't reach the pedals without heels. I also noticed the truck wasn't automatic but, stick shift. I sighed, and got out walking back over to him, and he put his hand out. "I can't drive stick-shift." I admitted. I put the keys in his hand and he smiled as he opened my door for me. He walked around and got in, his right hand trapping my thigh before anything. "It's okay doc, I like you right here as it is."
I put my hand in his and leaned back as he drove off. I looked out the window and watched as we passed several lights that turned into a blur. A realization hit me causing me to audibly gasp. "What's wrong?" King asked as he removed his hand off me to shift gear for a moment. "Chastity was one of the photographers." I laughed. "The red head, oh she was so pretty." I said looking up to him. "He must have a type." He said quietly. He took his hand off my thigh and gripped the steering wheel as he sat up. "Are you okay?" I asked, sliding my hand down his back. He didn't answer. He kept looking in the rear view mirror so I looked as well. It was just cars driving behind us as usual. "What is it? You're scaring me." I said through a forced laugh.
"I'm sorry doc, but in a minute here, I'm gonna need you to kind of duck and hold the wheel." He leaned forward grabbing his gun from his waistband and taking it off safety. He started controlling the wheel with his knees as he looked over to me. "What the fuck are you doing, King?" I asked frantically. "Are you ready?" He asked calmly and maybe a bit excited. He completely let go of the wheel and I grabbed it by instinct. He shoved his head and body out the window and shot at the two cars behind us.
They shot back and he didn't move as if he was bullet proof. "Change the gear, doc." He screamed and my eyes opened in fear. "To what exactly?" I tried keeping my eyes on the road but with my boyfriend's body out the window, I couldn't focus and we were swerving, badly. "Second gear." But before I could do so he sat back in his seat and took control of his wheel, dropping his gun in my lap. I looked back and the car was spinning out of control. It only took seconds for it to go off road and hit a tree. The car blew up and sent the cars near it back.
I flinched and ducked my head down. I calmed down and ran my hand through my hair as I looked down at my feet. I paid attention to my breathing as King ran his hand up my back. "I'm sorry. I saw the vanity plates and didn't want to risk it." He apologized. By the time I looked back up he was pulling into the driveway. He quickly got out and opened my door for me. "You're bleeding." I looked at his arm. I pulled out my keys and unlocked the door walking into the cold and dark home. "Go sit on the counter." I went to the bathroom and got my medical kit from under the sink. When I came back he was drinking out of a bottle of Ciroc and had his shirt off on the floor.
As I began to put in the first stitch into his graze a laugh escaped me. "Something funny?" He asked as he inhaled a sharp breath. "No. I mean I don't know." I told him. "That's what work is to you?" I asked as he chugged some of the alcohol. "Two percent yes it is." I slid the needle back into his flesh that was leaking blood. "I don't know if it was fun or if the adrenaline was too much." He chuckled at my response. "But it can't happen again. Ever." I said looking up at him. "Doc listen, I told you I'd stop and I will so things like that don't happen." I looked back to his arm. "But?" I pushed in another stitch. "But the only way out of this life, really is dead. Everyone knows my face and name, they'll look for me. Maybe even you when they find out about you." I coughed as the air got caught in my throat.
"That can't happen. Like actually, no one can come after either of us. I need us both alive and left alone." He chuckled and put the bottle down and tucked my hair back. "I'm done but if Reid needs help or something, I'll help doc. I made it in this life for nine years. I expect a few more." I shook my head as I put the needle down and bandaged his arm. "Reid won't call you if he needs help. I expect us both to live for as long as possible and die of natural causes. The only way any of us touch a gun is if trouble comes knocking at our door. We don't go looking." He pulled me in by my hips and stood me between his legs.
"What happened to each life I take, you wash away my sin with a life you save." I shook my head. "That offer doesn't stand anymore." I told him. "And why's that doc, did I scare you that bad tonight?" He asked, holding my face. "Because I'm pregnant." His smile dropped and his hand fell off my face. "For the six months I was gone, my birth control implant was not on my mind and I forgot to change it. It wasn't until this morning after sex I remembered. I didn't think anything of it until I decided to take a blood test to be sure." My heart was racing as he just stared at me. He didn't say a word or move a muscle. "King?" I asked softly.
"You're pregnant?" He asked before chugging down the rest of the bottle and turning to me. "I know we didn't talk and it's random and with everything going on you probably aren't ready for kids. And I'm sorry, just say the word and we could forget about it." I continued to ramble on while I avoided eye contact with him. As he stepped closer I took a step back. Scared of his reaction or thoughts he may be having. I continued to step back and talk until my back hit a wall and there was nowhere else to go. I stopped talking and took a deep breath to start again. "Are you done?" He asked. "Just don't yell." I asked as I played with the rings on my hand. "Deal, I won't yell."
Everything that was rushing in my head abruptly stopped when his lips pushed against mine. His hands met my face as he pulled me in. He kissed me and I unraveled so fast in his hands. I kissed him back and wrapped my arms around his torso. "So you're not mad?" I asked against his lips. His hands dropped to my thighs and picked me up as he pulled away from our kiss. "How could I be mad or yell at you?" He asked. "Doc," I stared into his eyes. The ones that felt like home. "Francesca, we're having a baby."
I smiled and he smiled along with me as he spun us around in circles, laughing and showing me those beautiful smile lines. "So you're happy with me? No work?" I asked, wanting pure confirmation. He stopped spinning and held me close. He hugged me and buried my face into his neck as his hand slipped under my shirt and rubbed my back.
"I promise you, Francesca."
