"I think all we're missing is the hint of Remy Martin." King chuckled as I lifted my legs to rest on the dashboard of his RAM 1500 truck. "I think I'll stay away from the drinking for now." I told him as I leaned back, his hand resting on my thigh as we followed my mother thirty minutes out of Venice into the heart of Milan for the largest shopping center ever, 'IL Centro." More than 200 stores and over 30 restaurants. Milan was known for its malls, I loved coming here. The only reason King tagged along was so he could get out of the hospital. I didn't want to be out. I wanted more than anything to be elbow deep inside someone's mind but I owed my mom to throw me a birthday party at least once more.
"What do you and Reid do for your birthday?" He sighed letting a small laugh escape. "Reid, he goes somewhere where it's snowing, rents a cabin and throws a birthday bash for days until the cops are called." I ran my hand up his arm. "And yourself?" I asked. "I do my job." He smiled. "So murder people?" He turned to look at me, as if he was trying to look for something before turning to focus on the road. "It feels so good having a breathing punching bag. You hit, and cut and drown, until their last breath is yours. So on my birthday doc, I rid the world of those who won't be missed." He stepped a bit harder on the gas as he squeezed my thigh, my hand never leaving his arm as I traced his tattoos over and over, until I noticed a smile. "Something funny?" I asked. "I just said all that and you didn't flinch, gag, or pull away."
"I know what you do, and I've accepted it. For each life you take, I'll wash away your sin with a life I save." He parked and turned off the car, pulling the key out of the ignition. "I think I just cheated my way out of a hell I was bound to." I smiled as he leaned in to kiss me. Our lips inches away as my mother knocks on his tinted window. He rolled down the window and she placed her hands on her hips. "What's taking so long to get out? You and my Bambino fooling around?" King looked at me and back to her as he pulled his hand off my leg. "No ma'am, not at all." He said hesitantly as I jumped out of the raised truck. I grabbed my phone and purse before walking to the front and waited for them.
My mom hooked her arm around mine and started walking leaving King behind. I turned my head back to look at him and whispered, 'I'm sorry.' as she dragged me inside. Her first stop was Versace. Her all time favorite brand. "Versace doesn't sell the types of dress you want me in." She un-looped her arm from mine and walked in anyway. "They do custom pieces for custom checks." She laughed Immediately walking up to an associate. I felt King's arm wrap around my neck as I leaned into him. "What colors would you like to wear for this birthday of yours?" He asked as we watched her parade around the room.
"She doesn't know it yet but I have a white dress I've been eyeing for quite some time from Mugler. So white for me, girls in natural colors, boys in black." He smiled. "My mom loves Mugler." He removed his arm from around my neck and trailed his hand down my spine. "Let me guess, is it a tight fitting dress, doc?" His hands stopped at the back of my thigh where my short dress stopped, his touch alone sending my mind into alert. "Easy to get on, easy to get off." I whispered looking up to him.
