I've been thinking for a few days regarding Charioce's character and I honestly struggle understanding why people think he's a decent person. I understand why some still like Nina because I like her character for the character she should have been without the interference of Charioce on the narrative.
No matter how I look at it he wished to be the hero and take all the credit, yet I realized a bit late after watching the prequel after the sequel that the actual mural indicated he was the reason everyone triumphed, yet this same narrative wants us to believe humans are oppressed by demons and celestial alike.
I'm talking about the mural in the first episode. Going back I realize the words of the painter were simply "it was Charioce XVII who resurrected the Royal Capital Anatae from that despare", yet I actually thought without watching the previous series that he was in fact one of the heroes from the war and the one who slayed the dragon. I'd forgotten about this because later parts of the narrative say otherwise, but that thought remains.
More importantly, everything about Charioce is a lie, yet I feel Nina just ended up being a trophy rather than an actual love interest. Her beauty was exotic, yet her stats as part dragon made her pretty much a forbidden temptation. This was about himself and him presenting himself and humans as superior to demons and humans, nothing more and nothing less.
Oh, and he's rewriting history because he's currently the victor.
