Today I came across someone's AU where Shiro and Keith were the same age. Except, I didn't realize that's what it was until I read the note. I thought someone was drawing Shiro's younger brother Ryo, but the next thing which jumped out at me was the thought, "this is why I write Keith as if he's related to Shiro", because they look like twins. Even into consideration is the fact someone noticed they do look like each other and thought it would be funny if the team couldn't tell Keith and Shiro apart.
Of course, for some reason it's okay for Sheith fans to point out that they look like each other, but not those of us who write them as blood related siblings. We're the ones guilty of saying all Asians look alike. (No, this wasn't the artists who did this, but another one.)
Fact – everyone who looks that much alike in the series was related, so why were these two the exception. I think SDJ and LM catered to the fanbase. I also think with the fact they started sticking things together towards the end that they were indeed meant to be blood related siblings but they wanted to can this lest they get uproar from the fans of the pairing which isn't right given the fact they were just as bad as those who shipped Keith and Lance together.
I think the scene where Keith says Shiro is his brother and he loves them is content which was originally scrubbed and brought back when they needed something to fix the fact they'd planned on killing off Keith before that season, but the brother line got left in. Where's the proof? They needed an animator who'd left the project to start up his own work early on to come back and fix the scene.
