So, I've been writing Shiro and Keith as brothers since season one. Specifically, I've been writing them as having the same mother and father, which is still possible. However, one a couple of stories on the other site I had a couple of reviews which said they liked my stories, but didn't buy the whole theory about Keith and Shiro being siblings.

Then, season two comes out, Keith says Shiro is like a brother, and we get to see what Keith's dad actually looks like, and now I'm actually seeing others considering the possibility. They're not considering the theory because Keith and Shiro look like they could be brothers, but because Keith's dad looks like he could be Shiro's dad. Which means fans are actually realizing that Shiro and Keith actually do share similar facial features.

Except, I noticed that they did in season one, which is why I jumped on the idea and started writing stories about the two being siblings. See, it's not just that Shiro shares the same eyebrows and eyes as Keith's father, Keith has them to. They've also got a similar flow to their hair, which Keith's father's is a bit hard to grasp. I even noticed that if Ryo were aged down, he'd look like Keith. For those who don't know, Ryo was Shiro's brother in GoLions. We all know that the characters who've been seen sharing features are related to each other. Pidge and her brother, Allura and her father, and Lance and his very diverse looking like you in different ways family.

I didn't bring anything up because, well, I knew the staff were trying to hide the fact behind the scar and white lock of hair. However, they also showed pictures of Shiro without these features before they happened. Also, I noticed something weird about fanart when people drew the two, at least with the good artists. Every single time people drew Shiro and Keith, they still looked like each other despite the changes in style

Why though did I start thinking about this?

Well, I knew Keith had to know Shiro from the first episode. The options were sibling, friend, mentor or romantic interest. Keith got knocked out of the running for romantic interest by Shiro calling him buddy, and I knew for a fact that the characters were teens, as the staff had indicated as such long before the comic con when a fan released a video claiming they got canon proof that Shiro was twenty-five when they hadn't. (By the way, Pidge being fourteen isn't canon either, as it was revealed in the same video where they said safety zone instead of yes.) That left friend and sibling, and yet with Keith's personality friend wasn't strong enough, so they must be siblings.

The question was foster, half or full after that.

In season two, we see exactly how protective Shiro can be of Keith, and Keith does say Shiro is like a brother. However, the other night I was watching star trek, and Picard used "like" in an episode in reference to his own family because while his sister-in-law made him feel "like" family, he struggled to feel like he "was" family. That's the way it was for Keith.

A few people may be thinking, but the staff's behind our pairing between the two!

Um, no they're not.

While it is true the voice actor for Shiro did come up with the pairing name Sheith, he was doing what a good voice actor does, interact with the fans. I also don't know whether it was intentional or not, but the pairing name is also similar to the word "sheath", as in sheathing a sword to be put away. Also, while it is true that one staff member responded to a picture of Shiro with "here's looking at you kid" and it could have romantic context, it also has a familiar context – something an older brother would say to a younger brother whether they were blood related or not.

I'm not against the pairing, and have read a few well written stories for it, but the pairing isn't going to be canon any more than the pairing between Lance is. (Oh, and putting male pronouns on the mermaid that kissed Lance in episode two despite the fact the character is obviously a female mermaid does not suddenly provide canon proof that Lance also likes guys. Canon has it so that he likes pretty girls, and that's it. And while I've read some great fics for the pairing, the canon points to the pairing being a non-canon pairing.)
