Please stop blaming people other than JDS and LM for the eighth season. Turning your anger on the writers and Shiro is exactly what they want. I'm talking about the fact people are doubting the writers ability and complaining because Shiro stole what belonged to Keith.
First, there was a limit to what the writers could do, but the comics and lack of Keith – when they're supposed to focus on all characters equally – isn't proof of their incompetence. For me, the third comic was proof thereof, but the remaining writer showed Allura as the strong leader she is rather than the pitiful character she was turned into for eighth season.
Even though Keith wasn't there in that comic there is a comment from Lance – the character JDS liked self-inserting himself in as – where he says that Keith must not be important because he was, which to me is the writer making a statement about what was going on – that was the attitude of JDS himself regarding Lance and Keith's characters.
Second, stop bashing Shiro for the fact Keith was never able to get out from underneath Shiro's shadow despite the fact you're in the same breath pointing out what a wonderful leader Keith in sixth and seventh season just because it became squashed in the eighth season and claiming he should have just stayed dead as if Shiro is not an important character.
For people so stuck on Keith it majorly bothers me that none of you are complaining about the fact he was stripped of the name Akira despite the fact this stayed with him in both GoLions and Voltron, nor are you complaining that he was stripped of his Japanese ancestry which was yet another consistent thing between the first two which wasn't in this version.
Stop bringing up the fact Shiro was just the GoLions character and not Sven because while it is true they're not the same character, they still are. It was Shiro and Akira in GoLions and Sven and Keith in Voltron, but complaining that Shiro was leader at all is problematic given Sven's backstory in Voltron in the fact while it was true he was never the leader of Voltron he was at one point the leader of their group, but stepped down because of a drug problem. (Likely tied to PTSD)
The reason Shiro was leader – even had PTSD and would have some event which would cause him to step down – that had nothing to do with JDS even though he thought Shiro was always the leader. It had to do with the fact the writers did in fact research their canon to the point of utilizing things which were brought up in the comics and not just the show.
So please, stop blaming Shiro and the writers.
