I'm not fond of the first part of the episode, but the last part I liked a lot. I'm also going to argue that Keith is actually part Altean and not Galra like he thought because of the diamond eye shape. That, or his mother was an Altean-Galra hybrid. Lotar – whose half-Altean, Haggar before her transformation and other Alteans are shown with this diamond eye shape, but so are other Alteans. The only other characters with this exact shape are Shiro and Keith, but the one hybrid people suspect to be half Altean. Even Keith's dad's inner eye shape is human like. However, I've also not been able to get pictures of Galra eyes pre-contamination.

I'm not fond of the first part because I guess it was kind of cheesy. In reality though, I didn't feel like I got to know the other paladins like we got to know so many other characters in the series, but then again, they ended up condensing a lot of info into one episode.

It does leave me interested in next season, that's for sure.

Here are my stances.

Galra Keith

I think it is either, as I said, going to turn out he's not Galra, but Altean and that all five species which once were unified together could in fact activate the blades, particularly since the Galra didn't have the tech to make the blades, but the Alteans did, or it is going to turn out that Keith's mother is an Altean/Galra hybrid. I know a ton of people were super excited for the theory, but the idea that his skin turned purple because of the Druid spell has been nixed – it was burns according to the novelization. He also has more Altean features than he does Galra, and I can say that now that we've seen more Alteans. That said, I also think those with that type of eye among the Alteans actually have powers and abilities. It could very well be that they're choosing the hybrid route, as Voltron Force had him as a quarter Arusian – name of Allura's people in that show. Or, Galra contaminated the species they came across all those years ago.

Lotor

Believe it or not, I actually think Lotar is trying to save his people, or what is left of them. Since he can't save his mother's home, he's got to try his father's people. His objectives are secretive. I also don't think that the supposed female Galra-Altean hybrid is actually Keith's mother, as she is a bit young. I like the fact he's interested in helping out the Galra hybrids actually.

Keith/Lance

Not going to happen. There was way too many references to Lance's interest in girls. The way they act towards either feels more like a strong friendship compared to anything. Add to this, the staff have pretty much said that while people can interpret the bonding moments that way, that's not the way they're headed.

Shiro/Keith

I'm actually convinced that they're brothers now, with the same parents. Shiro's eyes wouldn't be the Altean eye shape if that weren't the case. The question does come up as to why Keith would say "like", but I think it has to do with the fact Keith suddenly had reason to doubt his parentage. Chances are, Keith may have always felt different as well, and not a part of the family, with only Shiro accepting him and never giving up on him. He said that much himself.

Why not reveal it yet? Well, they waited to reveal Lotar until season three. They waited to reveal Haggar was actually Altean until chapter two. They waited to reveal a lot of things until later seasons, including more Alteans. Things will be revealed when they are. Does this mean those who ship them should stop shipping them? Nope, but please stop arguing that it's not going to happen just because the staff is supportive of the pairing. As I've discussed in some of my other reflections, they're going to be supportive of the fans.

Keith/Allura

While I still believe this is going to happen, with possible interference from two Altean-Galra half breeds. There were some strong moments in season two, but it was canon in the previous series, and they're pulling from the original canon. That said, while they had bonding moments this season there was nothing really romantic about any of the bonding moments this season. They were too busy being worried about other things.

Anyways...

Next season is going to be fun.
