Rick whistles and a walker appears, trying to squeeze out between the doors that Michonne and him are keeping closed. Using her sword she slices through the walker's head and the body drops. She peeks in and checks it out before turning back to address us. "We're good for now. Sweep protocol when we get in."
We head inside and spread out, weapons at the ready. We're currently in DC on a supply run looking for seeds and anything else that could help. I lift my crossbow up and scan my surroundings. Found this on one of my runs and decided to take it. It would be a waste not using the knowledge Dad taught me about how to use a crossbow.
Now that bullets are getting even more rare we had to switch to alternative methods. We move farther into the museum and look around. "Y'all got your lists. Circle back when you're done. Be safe." He emphasizes be safe and I nod, following close to Dad.
King Ezekiel goes over to a walker pinned under some debris, putting his boot on its back and stabbing it in the head with his sword. Michonne puts down another one that's close by. "This is gonna work," Maggie murmurs and I'm glad to see her smile. Since Rick spared Negan she hasn't come to visit Alexandria once.
It sucks not being able to see her a lot, but I understand why she can't be there. I hear the distant sound of growling and look down, freezing when I see multiple walkers through the glass part of the floor. Knowing the glass is probably pretty thick I still skirt around it instead. Better to be safe than sorry.
Once I'm close to the stairs I have to step on it, but just the edge. Dad follows me with Cyndie behind us. "Heads up," she calls and I turn around, look up, and see a walker had fallen off the second landing and came crashing down to the floor with large debris underneath him.
Before it hit Maggie, Carol, Ezekiel, and the others rushed to the stairs. I lift my crossbow up, aim, then fire. Satisfaction fills me when the bolt goes through the walker's eye socket, killing it. "Nice shot," Dad praises and I nod. "I had a good teacher." I smile up at him and he smiles back.
"Onward," Ezekiel says. "We'll figure it out." We continue up the stairs and go our separate ways, splitting off into small groups. I agreed to come on this trip for only one reason: to spend time with my dad. Rick needed someone to lead and keep an eye on the Saviors and unfortunately that person was my dad.
I get it. Really I do, but it doesn't mean I don't miss my father. He's been at the Sanctuary for a year and a half now. The whole reason we fought against Negan was so that we could all be together again, as a family, and now... everyone is everywhere. Sometimes I miss the prison. Or when it was just us at Alexandria. We were all together.
Now, it's all different. Maggie is at Hilltop, Carol lives at the Kingdom, and Carl's gone. I don't have anybody I really connect with at Alexandria, no one that's close to me in age. Except for Enid, but she's only staying until Siddiq and my mom have nothing left to teach her. Since Hilltop lost yet another doctor thanks to the Saviors Enid wanted to help out.
Me, I've been learning stuff from my mom as well, but since Hilltop needs a doctor more she teaches Enid full time where I'm more part time. Once Enid, graduates, I guess, I'll be her main focus. "Hey." I blink and look over at my dad, realizing I'd gotten lost in my thoughts. "You okay?"
"Yeah. Sorry, just thinking."
"How's your mom been?" He asks as we move and look around. "Busy. I think she likes it that way. Makes it harder to miss you." He sighs and looks down at a display. "I get why you have to be there. I do. And Mom understands too, but she still hates not having you around. Especially, when Shawn asks about you."
