I sit at the table with everyone else. Thinking about all the people we've lost. Amy and the others that died when walkers invaded our camp. I almost lost Daryl when he went back to get his idiot brother that was left behind by T-Dog, who brought back Lori's husband and Carl's father, Rick Grimes. We almost died getting to the C.D.C. and would have if Dr. Jenner hadn't let us in.
I pick up my glass that had wine in it. I shake my head before asking Daryl to hand me his bottle. He looks down at the whiskey in his hand. "You sure, this is pretty strong stuff?"
"Come on, I'm not a pansy just give it."
"Ooh, I think she means business, Daryl, best give it to her," Lori says and I smile. Daryl grins before holding it out to me. As I reach for it he pulls it just out of reach. "Daryl, come on! What are you, five?"
"Well apparently I am," he says playfully, still teasing me. I finally grab the bottle from him. "You are so pathetic!" He gives me a fake wounded look, batting his eyes at me. I stick my tongue out at him before taking a swig of the whiskey. My face barely scrunched up and I down the liquid.
I hand the bottle back to him and he gives me a respectful look. "A woman that can hold her liquor, I respect that." I smile and rest my head on his shoulder. Jacqui gives me an amused look. Until Shane had to ruin the humorous mood with his killjoy questions.
"We'll discuss this later, Shane let's just turn in for the night." The group nods their heads before going off to their rooms to shower. I get up and head to my room. I hop into the shower and feel joyful at the hot water. After I'm done, I get out and pull on a light lavender camisole, and striped pajama bottoms. Thought I'd sleep in something comfortable for one night.
But before that, I decided to walk around the CDC. I find the kids in the rec room playing checkers. Their moms not far away. "Hey, any of you know where Daryl's room is?"
Carol points to the last one down the hall. I thank her before walking towards the door. I knock and Daryl opens the door, gazing down at me. "What can I do you for, Kris?" he asks seeming slightly intoxicated but he looks lucid. "Can I come in?"
He nods and steps aside, letting me passed. I walk in and sit down on his bed, staring down at my clasped hands. "What's wrong?" He asks, sitting down beside me. "Daryl, you almost died in Atlanta and I almost died tonight and I don't think I can handle it..."
He cuts me off right there, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. I scoot closer to him, resting my head on his collarbone. "Nothing's going to happen to either one of us, Kris, okay don't worry about it."
"You don't know that, I care about you Daryl, I love you. I can't lose you, too." Daryl places his hand on my cheek, stroking it with his thumb. "Do you really mean that?" he asks sounding a little shocked. Like no one's ever cared for him or loved him. "Of course I do," I say softly, moving away to look up at him. "I love you, Daryl." I look into his eyes and they seem almost fearful but I slowly see the happiness within. He pulls me to him, pressing his lips to mine, I press back.
His lips tasted like alcohol and my heart pounded in my chest as I run my fingers through his hair, pulling him closer as my eyes fall shut.

"Alright, kids, time for bed," I say and they begin packing up their game of checkers. I smile at my Sophia. "Go on to bed, I'll be right behind you." She nods sleepily before heading to her room. Lori kisses Carl's head before sending him off.
Lori looks down the hall before turning back to me. "What do you suppose they're talking about?"
"What?"
