I stand with Kara, holding my knife by the blade. "Okay, now watch me." She nods and I bring my arm back, aiming at the log that was set up as our target. I throw the knife and watch as it sinks into the bark with a satisfying thud.

I hear clapping and look up to see Maggie. "Oh hey, Maggie, I'm just teaching, Kara how to throw a knife."

"I can see that. How's it going?"

"Well, you're about to see. Kara, honey, it's your turn." She nods and I go to retrieve my knife, then come back to her side. "Alright, just like I showed you." I watch her, she pulls her arm back aiming a little off-kilter and throws.

The knife hits the bark but doesn't dig in and falls to the ground. Kara looks disappointed. "Hey, don't get discouraged. Try again." She nods and goes to get her knife. Once by my side again she grips the blade and pulls her arm back.

I adjust her arm so the throw will be more accurate. "Alright, now, take a deep breath, aim for the target, and let loose." She smiles and nods following my instructions she throws and I watch the blade get embedded into the bark.

"I did it! Thank you."

"No, Kara that was all you." Maggie chuckles and ruffles Kara's hair. "Good job, Kara."

"Thanks, Maggie. Do you think, Carl, knows how to do this?"

"Well, I don't think so. Why don't you go get him, maybe you can teach him," I say and smile at her as she goes running off. "She's such an upbeat child. And so cute." I look at Maggie as she steps up beside me. "How's the even littler one?" She asks placing her hand on my stomach.

"They're just fine. A month has gone by since the sickness and I'm barely showing."

"I'm worried."

"Oh, now you're starting to sound like everyone else. I'm fine."

"Yeah, but remember-"

"I do! I held Judith in my arms as she cried and Rick disappeared into the tombs. That won't happen to me. I'm already terrified of the uncertainty I don't need everyone else adding to it!"

I turn away and cross my arms, thinking about the unborn life in my belly. "You're right. I'm sorry, Kris, I didn't mean to upset you."

"I'm not upset, I'm just...scared. I could die, I know that. The baby could die. I could lose Daryl before the child's even born. And then there's Kara, she's never had a family until I found her and I don't want her to lose that. I don't want to force her back into the loneliness that I suffered."

"Your family...that's right you lost them. Sometimes it's so easy to forget what we've all been through. I'm lucky, I guess, I still have my father and sister. But listen I'll do everything I can to make sure that nothing like that happens."

I look at her and smile sadly. "In this world, I don't think that's even possible."

"Well, I can sure as hell try. Because we're all family now. And we look out for each other." With tears in my eyes I pull her into a hug. "You're showing." I pull away giving her a playfully shocked look. "So, that's how it's gonna be?"

"Someone had to tell you."

"Okay, I'll admit," I pause and she gives me an expectant look. "I'm showing a little."

"Ya think?" we laugh and she wraps an arm around my shoulders as we walk back up. "Thanks for everything, Maggie."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, since the start before we even met you. I used to talk a lot with Andrea and Carol. Andrea...well she's gone now and Carol is MIA. I like to think we've grown closer since we found this place, I guess what I'm trying to say is.....thanks for being my friend."
