I'm working on the bridge, talking with Aaron as we get the work done. Jamie and Dean are helping as well. We carry a board over and carefully lower it down, once it's close enough I release it, removing my fingers so they don't get caught. I shake my gloved hand out and kneel down, grabbing a hammer and some nails.
I put one between my lips and hammer the other one in. "So, I go in after her nap and pick her up, and the diaper just explodes all over me."
"Sounds like good times," I remark as I continue hammering, remembering those times with Shawn. "Better than bein' woken up at three in the morning," I murmur and Aaron makes a noise of agreement. "I've seen how you are with Shawn and I can say with confidence that you're a great dad."
"Not sure I'd agree," I say and take the nail out of my mouth. "You hear this guy?" Dean asks Jamie who wipes the sweat off his face with the hem of his tank top. "Got something to say?" I ask him and he nods. "Yeah. Any dad that doesn't beat his kids or his wife senseless is a good dad in my opinion. Jamie?"
The brunette nods and crouches back down next to the former Savior. "I don't say this often, but Dean's right." He makes a noise and shoves Jamie playfully, exchanging smiles. "Come on. It's a compliment."
"Oh, I'm sure it is," he remarks sarcastically and I shake my head. "You love me," Jamie shoots back and Dean smiles. "Damn right I do."
"Ah, enough," I say gruffly and hammer in my nail as they laugh in amusement. "Ignore him. He's not a real PDA kind of guy," Aaron explains and I finish hammering. "No, we get it. Not everyone is comfortable around... our kind of relationship," Jamie says with understanding and I shake my head.
"I don't got a problem with y'all. Think I'd be friends with this one," I point towards Aaron, "if I did?" They chuckle and I wipe sweat from my brow. "Just want to focus on the work is all."
"Got it." I hear a thud and we look up from our work. I see Henry on the ground with Justin holding the cooler above his mouth, pouring water in when it's been rationed. Henry gets up and pulls his staff from the holder on his back and sweeps the Savior's legs out from under him.
He falls onto the bridge and the young blonde grabs the water jug, walking away. Jed starts laughing as the other workers just watch. "Hey, man, it's cool. I got my ass handed to me by a kid one time, too. Course, I was 6 at the time." I drop my hammer, knowing Justin will retaliate, and get up walking over as Jed helps him to his feet.
He heads straight for Henry and I rush forward, grabbing onto his shoulders to stop him. "Hey." He turns to glare at me and I give him a stern look. "Kid's just doing his job. Get back to work."
"I don't need your people telling me what to do. You're not my babysitter anymore." He turns to walk away and I grab onto his arm. He whips around and throws a punch that I step back to avoid before striking him in the face. He falls back and lands on the large pile of sand.
He breathes heavily and suddenly grabs a hand full, throwing it at me. It gets in my eyes and I cover my face, disoriented. He tackles me and I hit the ground. Justin gets in a few shots while I'm down, but once I get my bearings I kick him off me while the others start shouting.
I hear Aaron, Jamie, and Dean trying to help only for other Saviors to join in to keep 'em from interfering. I scramble to my feet and strike Justin across the face. He stumbles back before coming at me, his knuckles strike my jaw and I feel blood pooling in my mouth.
I bring my foot up and kick him square in the chest. He falls back against the edge of the bridge, almost going over it. He pushes himself up and just keeps coming. I punch him in the face before grabbing his shirt with both my hands and slamming him into one of the supports.
