🕉️Kara🕉️
After traveling for a few days we finally stumble upon a grove where a small house sits, surrounded by a small fence. "Maybe we could catch our breath here for a while."
"But we're still going to Terminus, right?" Carol nods and removes the pole so we could head for the house. "I can patch the fence, that's probably where the deer are coming from." I pick up a pecan and bite into it.
"We should leave it. Play it safe here." I look up and see smoke billowing into the sky. Hopefully because it's far away we won't have anything to worry about.
We settle down near the porch while Carol knocks on the door with Tyreese beside her. "If there's one in there, it's not moving much. Let's just stay close, go slow room to room. Girls, you sit tight. You don't come in until we come out no matter what you hear."
"Okay," They both say, but I get up and go over to them. "But Carol I can help!"
"No, I want you to stay here and watch out for them. You know how this world works, they don't, you can protect them. Understand?" I nod and Carol gives me a small smile before looking over at the girls.
"Lizzie's got, Judith. Mica, get out your gun.
You're gonna need to stand watch." She nods and pulls out the gun, but she holds it like she's afraid. "Stand strong, little lady," Tyreese says before going into the house with Carol."They're gonna be okay," Mica tells Lizzie who's staring at a small grave with baby shoes hanging on the cross. "It's not that."
"Is it that there was a baby?"
"No. They're gonna find one in there and they're going--"
"Stop it. They aren't people," Mica says and Lizzie just shakes her head. "But you're wrong. All of you."
"You're the one who's wrong!" I yell at her and she looks up at me. "Would you stop being a fucking idiot and open your god damn eyes!! They want to eat us! They want to rip open our bodies and feast on our flesh!"
"Kara's right, they aren't people, Lizzie. They're just dead." I nod and Lizzie gets up and starts arguing. I hear snarling and suddenly a walker's coming at us. Lizzie trips falling backward.
As it growls and shambles towards us I begin fumbling for my gun, but Mica already had hers out so she lifted it up and began firing. "Stop! Stop! Stop!" Lizzie screams and once the walkers down Carol and Tyreese come running out.
"Are you okay?" Once we nod she sighs. And I hear Judith crying, who's in Lizzie's arms. "All right, come on. I got you, little girl. Come here." Tyreese says pulling Judith out of Lizzie's hands who is also pulled to her feet and is crying.
I stare at the walker and kick myself for not being more alert. "Got her?" Carol asks Tyreese and he nods. Carol looks at Mica who still has the gun raised. "Mica. Mica, lower the gun. You did it. You saved them."
Mica nods and lowers it as she's asked. Carol looks to Mica's sister and sees her crying. "Why are you upset, Lizzie? Were you scared?"
"No."
"Then why are you crying?" She says it almost like she knows already.
"I don't want to say." Her voice breaks and Mica goes over to her, rubbing her shoulder.
"Shh. Lizzie. I'm sorry I yelled at you. Just look at the flowers like you're supposed to.
Count one, two, three." They count together and Lizzie eventually calms down. They're in the living room, but I'm sitting on the kitchen table, staring out into the yard. I haven't talked much, only a few words. The most words that come out of my mouth is when I'm calling Lizzie on her misplaced bullshit belief about these things.
