"Michonne," I call to her as she marches ahead. "Michonne, slow down!" She finally listens and I jog to catch up to her. "You're pregnant. You gotta start being more careful." Growling catches my attention and I look over to see a walker coming toward us, it's jaw barely hanging on.
Michonne moves towards it, but I stop her. "What did I just say?" She sighs and lowers her sword while I raise my crossbow. I look through the scope and fire when it lines up. The bolt sails through the air and goes right into the corpse's skull. It drops to the ground and I go over to pull my bolt out, wiping the blood off on its tattered clothes.
I pull the string back and slide my bolt back into place. "I can take care of myself." She walks past me and I sigh. "Thanks for looking out for me, Kara. You're so welcome, Michonne."
"I'm sorry." She places her hand on her belly and I lift my weapon back up. "I know. We all miss him. But you know Rick wouldn't want you putting yourself and your unborn child in danger at the off chance that you'll find him." She doesn't respond and goes over to one of the corpses, rolling it over to check and see if it's Rick.
She sighs and turns to look out across the water. Someone clears their throat and we turn around. "Dad." He nods in greeting and I lower my crossbow. "He ain't out there. I followed this to the ocean and back. Nothing out there, either."
Then why are you still out here? I want to ask, but I already know the reason why. "You good?" He asks Michonne who rubs her stomach. "This one's been kicking the shit out of me every morning at 4. Can't sleep, anyways. Judith's been asking about you."
"And Shawn," I add and he looks at me. "It's been awhile since we've seen you back at Alexandria."
"I'll be back when I find something." I shake my head and tighten my grip on my crossbow. "Plenty of reasons to come back. Finding something doesn't have to be one of them."
"Looks like I'm gonna be the only one out here for a while."
"You don't need to do that." But he will. No matter how impossible or how long it takes. Even if it kills Mom he'll do it. "Ain't gonna stop looking. Not ever."
"Cause that's who you are, right Dad?" He looks back at me. "The type of guy that prefers to spend all his time in the wild, dodging death at every turn rather than being with his family."
"Kara," Michonne chastise, but I scoff and walk away.
"Okay, great. You're doing good," Mom praises as I help stitch up Jocelyn's wound. Scott and Rosita found her and a couple a kids wandering around outside. Apparently Jocelyn is an old friend of Michonne's. It hasn't been that long since Rick blew up the bridge to keep the herd from tearing through Kingdom.
It never would have happened if Maggie hadn't come here to kill Negan, pulling Rick and Daryl away from the camp. So they weren't there when Jed and some other Saviors ambushed Carol and the other communities trying to get guns so they could go to war with Oceanside for killing some of their people.
Too bad Jed wasn't on their hit list. As soon as I finish stitching Mom wraps some gauze around her torso. As soon as we were done Jocelyn got up and stumbled out the door no matter how many times Mom and Siddiq told her to stop. "Jocelyn!"
"You've lost too much blood," Mom tells her as we rush out after her. She grunts in pain and heads for the steps. "Michonne!" Siddiq calls out and motions her over. She, Aaron, and Rosita jog over.
"Joss, what are you doing?"
"I have to go back," she says and almost falls causing Siddiq to help steady her. "She can't travel right now."
