"Konan," I smile as I pick up my cell phone. "I'm surprised you called me on your phone and didn't mind link."
"Roman and I are with the humans, so I figured it was best to do it this way. Plus my wolf isn't as strong as yours to be able to do that, baby sis."
"So what's up? Why the sudden phone call?"
"Roman and I were just wondering how it's going? You've been there for a few days now, settling in okay?"
"Yeah, I guess," I sigh, though I can't help but feel happy just knowing my brothers wanted to check up on me, "I just miss being home already. And I miss you guys, and mother."
Konan sighs on the other end, and I don't need to be near him to know that he's upset for me. "We understand kiddo, this will all be over soon though."
"Will it?" I raise an eyebrow and cross my arms even though he can't see that. "You heard father he's basically keeping me here until the Artrac pack leaves or loses wind of me."
"They don't know that you belong to our pack though. They just know from other packs that you exist and they've been looking all over this part of the states and Canada for you."
"Well that's just peachy," I mutter. "Am I ever going to be able to go home then?"
"We don't know baby sister," I hear Roman say, and I can tell that he genuinely sounds both sad and distraught by what he said. Which honestly doesn't give me a lot of confidence.
The last time something like this happened, I was sent to my grandparent's place for about a couple of months. They didn't stay around for that long and I was about to come home soon.
Apparently this time they caught wind of me closer to home so my father is more paranoid. Last time they were just near and father sent me away as a precaution.
This time I guess they got close enough without father knowing about it. So it freaked him out and he basically sent me away indefinitely. Which doesn't exactly instill me with confidence that I'll be able to go home soon.
"Great," I mutter.
Though I knew deep down that what they were thinking was probably not. And I had to repress the urge to cry.
Konan was quick to try and cheer me up. Though it was pretty hard all considering. "Don't worry too much, we've got a surprise for you coming. So don't worry, it'll start to feel like home down there in no time."
"Really?" I raise an eyebrow and chuckle. "And what may that be?"
"Nuh-uh, that's the whole point of a surprise," Konan chuckles. "So, how's school going? Make any new friends?"
A small smile makes its way onto my face as I remember the group of friends I currently had. "Actually, I have. I met a group the other day and they're letting me hang with them."
"That's really good kiddo," Roman says. "How many friends?"
"Well, there's three girls and four boys. They all seem to like me so that's nice."
I could practically hear the fact that Konan had a smile on his face. "Well, at least you've got some friends. Any werewolves in the group?"
"Oddly enough, yeah. Most of them are actually."
"Really?" I can hear Konan's surprise through the phone.
"Yeah," I grumble. "There's one person that I still don't know, I wasn't around them a lot privately. But I know for sure that two of the people in the group are humans." I figured out that Chris was a werewolf after he gave me a side hug, now all that was left was Rosie.
