It's been a week since New Years, so it's the eighth of January right now. The meeting with that Alpha went perfectly. He introduced me as his mate, to which he mentioned that I was human. And the alpha was so nice. He didn't seem to mind who I was. Or, at least who I was pretending to be.
And I hate lying to people. But I'm so used to it since I've been doing it my entire life. That's the sucky part. I'm good at it.
But the meeting went well. I made sure to pay attention and get a read on everything. Since I'll more than likely be involved more in the future.
The gala was now tomorrow, and I was pretty nervous to say the least. And why wouldn't I be? I have to be in a giant place with a lot of different Alpha's, Beta's and more than likely their mates for who knows how long?
Not only is it going to be a very long time, but I'm going to have to talk to people. And what if they somehow found out about me? What then? Then I'll be hunted for who knows how long. And I don't want to take the risk.
Which is why I'm going to be extremely careful when we go tomorrow. I know that Brody has to go, and he wants to so he can show me off. I get that it's exciting for him, but I hope he still remembers to be a little cautious. I know he's not that stupid, but this is the kind of thing I worry about all the time with me being who I am.
I just hope everything goes well tomorrow. I don't want to embarrass Brody, and I don't want people to find out about me. Simple as that, right?
God tomorrow is going to suck. I'm going to feel bad when I keep lying to them.
"Hey."
I jump a little bit and turn my head up so that I can see Brody's face.
The two of us were in his office sitting on a couch together that he had by the giant bookshelf wall. He had an arm wrapped around me and was laying in the corner of the couch. I was sideways a bit, me leaning against him and my legs up on the couch.
He had his feet up on a coffee table in front of him, paperwork in his hands and on a small table next to him that he was writing on.
I didn't really want to be away from him right now. As cheesy and needy as it sounded, I just wanted to curl up next to him and just lay there. No matter what he was doing.
And he needed to catch up on paperwork. He was slightly behind and he wanted to get as much done as he could before we left tomorrow.
"Whatcha thinkin about?"
Brody sets the papers down on the table and wraps both arms around me, making me scrunch into him and relax against his chest. "Nothing, I'm just a little tired. That's all," I whisper and cuddle up to Brody.
Brody lets out a soft chuckle and gently rubs my arms. "That's okay darling, go to sleep."
"I wanna wait for you," I grumble. And that wasn't a lie. Even though I felt like falling asleep right on the spot. I was extremely exhausted from all the training I've been helping with lately.
"Tough," Brody grumbles out. "I don't want you at the house alone based on what's happened, so I'll have Collin come."
"Brody," I groan.
I definitely didn't need some chaperone all the time. I appreciate that he cares for me, but this was getting a little ridiculous.
"No, it's not what you think," Brody chuckles. "I have a small private room down the hall that I go to when I'm too tired to go home. I rarely use it, but Collin can take you there until I finish up this paperwork. Okay?"
"I can take care of myself," I quickly remind him.
Brody sighs a little bit and leans his chin on the top of my head from behind me. "I know that, darling. I know you can. But what if there's an ambush or a big pack all at once? You can't take them all on your own, especially if you don't change into your wolf."
Okay, he definitely has a point. But I'll admit when he brought that up, it just reminded me that all of this was my fault in the first place. That being all the rogue attacks and all that.
I grumble a little bit, being loud enough so that he could hear me. And I know he does when he lets out a soft laugh.
"I'll come up in a second. I have to finish this paperwork otherwise I'll get in trouble," he chuckles and gives me a quick kiss. "I'll be up in a little while to get you. I promise."
I huff a little bit and move myself so that I was off of his chest. "Fine," I fake pout. "But I'm not happy about it."
"I'll make it up to you," Brody whispers. He leans forward a little bit, and it didn't take a moron to see what he was doing. I gently roll my eyes and lean down, giving him a quick peck.
"I love you, I'll come get you soon," Brody chimes out.
"Love you too," I say as I wave a hand over my shoulder.
"It won't be long, I promise!"
"Yeah, yeah," I mumble.
As soon as I walk through the hallway, I spot Collin coming down the corridor. Brody must have already asked him.
"Collin!" I smile as he gets over to me. "There's my favorite blonde warrior."
Which isn't necessarily a lie. I don't know many blonde warriors that work for Brody.
Collin quickly bows, lowering his head and putting his arms right at his side. "Pleasure to see you Luna."
"Collin," I roll my eyes quickly. I love all of Brody's pack members, I do. But they really need to stop with the Luna talk or I'm going to harm them.
"Sorry, ma'am," Collin sends me a dimple filled smile as he raises his head.
I glare up at his slightly tall figure and cross my arms in annoyance. Something that I seem to be doing a lot of lately. I ignore the innocent look on his face as I stride past him in the direction that he came.
But when I get to the corridor, I stop and turn around. "I have no idea where I'm going."
Collin quickly nods his head and starts walking to the left, me following after him. I remember Brody may have walked me down this way during our tour, but I know that he never formally took me down every single area, and I think this might be one of them.
Everything looks the same at the start, since the corridors all look the same. But after Collin took a slight left, it looked a bit different. There was a small sort of open area, like the opening to a house. Like a little greeting area. And as I followed Collin down a hallway, it opened up to reveal a small kitchen.
Holy hell. How many kitchens do they have in this place?
My eyes widen and they roam around the decently large kitchen. With a long island, small dining table and marble counters. It's beautiful for how small it is.
"Um, this is just a small area that Brody uses when he doesn't want to go back to his house. Some of his team also have rooms down here." Collin points to a hallway to the right, "The beta, gamma and delta stay down there."
"Oh," I mutter.
"Brody's room is up the stairs," Collin points to the left, where I now see a dark wooden staircase.
I open my mouth to ask him something when I suddenly perk up a little bit. I heard what sounded like crying. And after I got a quick whiff, I could tell. It was Rosie.
"Collin, give me a second," I mutter. I don't even give him a glance before I turn and exit back the way we came in. Sure enough, I could see Rosie walking in this direction from the corridor me and Collin were just walking down previously.
She was so out of it she didn't even see me standing there. I felt so bad that she was crying, my heart hurt for her.
"Rosie?" I whisper.
