The Hufflepuff has been absent from his head for the past 6 hours, and Rey is already missing him dearly. The absence of Cedric's voice -that would sometimes chime into his head uninvited- or presence was clearly affecting him negatively. It was all apparent in his lack of concentration right now.
"Ugh...." He groaned as he messed up another knitting pattern. Why couldn't he get this right?
"Oh, trying to knit?" Liam peered up from his corner of the room. A literal pile of books stood tall behind his sitting form. Rey had a great time imagining his roommate's fighting strategy in a duel would always involve a book. Either transfiguring the enemy body (part) into a book or throwing a spell that would create a hail of Britannica encyclopedia books upon the poor enemies.
"Oh, yes. A late-minute Christmas present." Rey scratched the back of his neck in shame. He should have knitted the scarf earlier.
"Would you mind if I watch? Perhaps I can lend you a hand. I used to watch my gran-gran knitting all day." The boy chirpped.
"Sure thing..." He replied while patting the empty space on his bed.
Rey quickly find that his roommate is quite knowledgable in terms of knitting. Liam swiftly gave multiple corrections about his work, especially the one that was newly-knitted. It all was a mess, and thanks to Liam it's way better. He was amazed at how more speedy his knitting was thanks to Liam's help, as he's already done by noon.
After the knitting job was done, Rey decided to hang out with Liam in Lunch for a little bit. He didn't forget to bring Cedric's present along, hoping that the Hufflepuff has returned to the school. He deflected Liam's curiosity perfectly after the boy caught him restlessly scanning the Hufflepuff table, totally dejected on his boyfriend's -and even his bestmates'- absence.
"Ugh...." He sighed before pushing a spoonful of meat and gravy into his mouth.
"You're so anxious today. Someone's missing?" Liam pried softly.
"No, not exactly." He replied as he couldn't find Anthony and Malcolm either. Could they be hiding in the shrieking shack? Or perhaps they escaped to the Underworld Inn? Letting his thoughts go, Rey continued to enjoy his lunch with Liam.
After their short lunch, Liam and him went separate ways. The former said plainly that he would read some books about automation spell and disappear as quietly as usual, leaving Rey behind, alone in his bewilderment. He couldn't get rid of his slight dejection, prompting him to stood quietly while holding Cedric's gift in his hand.
"Hey..." Somebody hissed from behind the corner. Rey stood frozen in his place.
"Rey!" Malcolm hissed again, his head popping out from said corner. The older boy waved him over and Rey obliges.
"What is it?"
"Well, your boyfriend's here and he just passed the test." Malcolm shot him a blinding smile. The smile was contagious, as Rey's excitement shot through the roof after hearing that Cedric has returned to the castle. His mind already pushing the notion for him to visit the Hufflepuff.
The grin on his face definitely gave way of his thought, as Anthony quickly stop him. "He's quite tired though, so he took a nap." Even though he felt a tad deflated, Rey was Grateful that his boyfriend has returned.
He then proceeded to ask how Ced's license test has gone, only to receive splendid responds from the two. Rey could already guess Cedric would succeed, so he was glad that he had the right words written on the gift card in advance. With a small pleasantries later, Rey heads back to the Gryffindor Tower. Perhaps it would be best if he take a rest before preparing for the Yule Ball. He had some suspicion that it would be a long night.
