Chapter 3: My Enemy's Enemy, Part VII (Class Trial)

Once every vote had been locked in, the screen behind Monokuma turned on yet again and began spinning around that damned roulette wheel. For a moment, it stalled as if it was to land on Iori's face, but eventually settled upon Nanae's. And the horrific capstone was the accompanying jingle and confetti.
Iori Jabami, the Ultimate Snake Charmer, was the murderer of Shouko Nikaido, the Ultimate Sukeban. But more importantly to Monokuma, Nanae Mochizuki, the Ultimate Baker, was the murderer of Mayu Ikezawa, the Ultimate Go Player.
She would be punished, he would be spared. She would never get to see her family again, he would be free to kill again if he wanted to. She would die, he would live.

Monokuma: Well, this was kind of a close one! 4 votes for Mr. Snakey here and 6 votes for Ms. Bread right there!
Iori: I wonder who gave me those... That bitch, and Tetsuo, and who else?
Ukyo: Me. Your callousness has, truth be told, disgusted me.
Iori: Oh yeah? Who was the fourth vote? C'mon, tell me-
Chie: It was me, ribbit! You're the worst, croak!
Iori: Why?
Chie: At least Usagi said sorry! You didn't, ribbit!
Iori: And what does that have to do with you? Trivial matters matter not to the Red Drag-

Kira: Of-of course! And his delusions of-
Iori: They're not delusions.
Ukyo: Yes, they are.
Nanae: ...No... Why... Why would you all...
Sasuke: Shit happens. Get over it. Or not, considering that you're about to die soon, haha!
Asuka: Sir? What would have happened if there had been... a tie?
Monokuma: Funny thing. Well, it determines on if the blackened was included or not: if they weren't, then sorry, game over, they win.
Kira: And what if...?
Monokuma: They were included, you say? Well, I thought it would be funny on them to think they could barely clinch a victory... but, y'know, if they're caught, they're caught. Consider it a mercy.
Homura: What do you mean by that?
Monokuma: Isn't it so blatantly obvious? If the tie included the blackened, the spotless win! Got it?
Homura: I-I do.
The court fell into silence shortly afterwards, left to take in the revelation that she didn't really have a chance.
Nanae: ...No, you-you can't be saying... I, but, Mayu, my parents, I-I...
Iori: You never really had a chance to get out, didn't you?
Nanae: Mama, papa, they'll be worried sick about me, won't they? Can I-
Monokuma: Nope! I hope they'll experience the sweet despair of not knowing that their kid is dead and buried! Upupupu~
Nanae: I-I mean-
