Daisy pushed all her weight against her door. Her body jolting with every hit george delivered. "Open the fucking door" he shouted, "I said open the mother fucking door!" she shook in fear, tears rolling down her face. She could handle the abuse her pa gave her but this, this look in his eyes was something she had never seen before. The look that he was going to kill her, not just attempt.
The reputation of his perfect daughter tarnished by that man. That she would get sucked in by his charm and power. "Your nothing but a whore!" George spat "letting him fuck you like a common hooker". She could hear his sobs as he spoke, Probably more crocodile tears
The only thing he cared about now was that she was someone's seconds. The promise of a young virgin was more enticing when it came to writing off his debts. Now he had nothing to offer. He was probably going to be dead by the end of the week with the whole town knowing.
"I love him!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, instantly the banging stopped. George was taken back by her words. No, over his dead body she was going to love Lee Bodecker. He would marry her off to some guy in another state if that was the only way to keep her from him.
"I love him daddy" she spoke between sobs, Daisy knew her pa would never approve of her love and he was more likely to want to kill her after her confession. But it felt so good to admit it and rebel against her father.
George on the other hand was furious, he raised his daughter better than this. She was to do everything he told her to do. Including marry who ever he chose to save his own ass. Only thing his so called daughter is good for, counting cards and paying off his debt.
"Now you listen to me" he began " Lee Bodecker never loved you, he incapable of loving just one woman. Just just another hooker to him" lies, they had to be. Lee loved her and she knew it. "Your wrong" she croaked, unable to stop the tears flowing.
"Your just as naive as your mother" he spat, his words causing more pain to Daisy than hitting her. She had to get out, she had to get to safety. Letting her pa drone on about how much of a disappointment she is and how much he detested lee, she took her opportunity.
Slowly creeping across her room and sliding the wooden framed window open. She prayed it wouldn't make its usual squeak. Swinging her legs over the ledge, thank god her room wasn't any higher from the ground.
Thankfully this wasn't the first time she had jumped down or climbed up to her window. She took a deep breath, covering her mouth with her hand to stop any sounds escaping. She landed with a thud that wasn't loud enough to break George from his rant.
She looked over her shoulder at her home one last time and she bolted.
The evening was pretty boring for Lee, he couldn't help be feel guilty. He knew george wasn't happy, that much was clear. He had hoped Daisy had made her way to him earlier, to safety. He was torn about what to do.
Did he sit at home waiting for her, knowing full well George was beating the living crap out of her. Or did he get involved and possibly cause more damage.
Daisy had never spoken a word about her home life, lee knew it was difficult to talk about let alone to the sheriff. All he could do was to be there for her when she needed him. He paced back and forth in front of his couch. He could make a hole in the carpet if he wasn't careful.
A faint knock on the front door got his attention. It had to be her, it had to be Daisy. Pulling the door open he sighed.
"Daisy what ya doing out here in the cold?" Lee asked but before he would finish his sentence Daisy wrapped her arms around him, pulling her body to him. Tears rolled freely down her face as she sobbed into his chest. "I'm sorry lee I didn't know where else to go" she apologised in between sobs.
"Shh, don't apologise for that sugar" he spoke softly as he pulled her into his home. His hand on her lower back, the fabric of her dress felt damp. As he studied her body he realised her hair was wet mats. "Darling why are you wet?" He asked guiding her to the couch.
She sighed as she sat, there was no point in hiding the truth anymore. She had ran out of plausible excuses for her injury's. "Pa, knows about us. He, he..." she stuttered "lee he tried to kill me" lee let those words sink in.
There was no way a man could try and kill his own daughter because she was in love. Then again this wasn't any man, this was George. The abusive drunk. Anger boiled up inside Lee, he knew George was hurting Daisy. He had been working his ass off to save for a new home, their home.
He had his eyes set on a family home up in brewer heights, away from her Pa. he never expected it to be this soon she'd be moving in with him. Lee just wished it was under different circumstances.
It took all of his will power not to storm out the house and kill George for what he had done. Why did men insist on hurting Daisy? She had never done no wrong. Right now she needed Lee, he was the only man she felt safe around. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders pulling her into his chest.
She rested against his solid chest as she wept. Letting out all the emotion and fear through her tears. Soon enough she had cried herself to sleep. Lee looked down at her and smiled, running his fingers through her hair.
From now on she was going to be living with him, no ifs or buts. Lee gently lifted her petite body in his arms, taking her to his bedroom. Pulling the wet dress from her body, she instantly snuggled into his sheets.
"I'll deal with this sugar" he whispered, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
