It was late, why lee volunteered to take the late shift he will never know.

Well that's a lie he does know.

Truth was he had gone soft. Daisy's act of kindness changed something in him. Plus if he wanted to get re-elected he needed to be seen as a good boss.

He was sat thinking about Daisy, and what they did the other night. Those noises that came out of her mouth were better than porn.

They way she said his name over and over. Abruptly he was pulled from his sexual fantasy. That damn phone. Always ringing at an inconvenience time

"What?" He barked down the phone. "I'm, I'm sorry to disturb you sheriff" the shakey voice of an officer spoke "They found a body"

24 hours earlier

Lee missed Daisy visiting every night. Not to mention her cooking was amazing, she really was the perfect house wife material.

He grumbled at his phone ringing, as much as he didn't want to he had to answer it. Only the station ever rang him at home.

Before he could speak a faint voice spoke in a hurry "Lee, I need you to listen to me" he knew that voice.

Daisy.

She sounded scared and panicked. Lee did his best to stay calm, he took a deep breath before answering "I'm listening".

He took a pen for the side and a scrap of paper he could find closest to him. "I need you to come to the woods. The one near the parkin' lot" she explained.

Lee could hear the fear in her voice, he swore he could feel her shaking down the phone. "What's going on sugar?" He asked, right now he was like a swan.

Calm and collected on the outside but on the inside. His heart was pounding as fast as a swans legs could kick."Please lee just come, alone and hurry" she begged putting the phone down.

Lee did as he was told, making his way to the specified destination. Pulling up to the dimly lit lot, no one was to be seen. He huffed getting out of his cruiser slamming the door shut.

What the hell was going on?

"Lee that you?" Daisy called out, he took a step towards her voice. "Is me sugar" he relied.

Daisy stepped out from the trees shaking like leaf, her skin white as if she had seen a ghost.

Lee breathed a sigh of relief untill he cast his eyes down. Her pale pink dress and hand stained with blood. Fresh blood.

"Jesus" he exclaimed, rushing towards her. Checking every inch of her, for the source of the bleeding . "I was scared lee I didn't know what to do" she broke down in tears.

Wanting to brush the hairs off her face, lee stopped her before she could smear any more blood on her self.

"It's ok, I got ya" he smiled holding on to her shoulders "now I need ya to tell me what happened sugar" lee urged, smoothing his thumb over her cheek.

He desperately wanted to hold her tight as she cried her heart out. But he couldn't risk getting any blood on him. Not before he knew what had happened.

"Pa has some company so I did as you told me. I was on my way to you when I felt like I was being followed. Thought I'd make my way to the parking lot, you know so there was some more folks around so I'd be safe.

Someone grabbed me and pulled me into the woods. Tommy kept touching me, said he'd treat me better than you. Pa told me to carry a pocket knife with me, after what happened to my ma. I told him to stop, said I wasn't afraid to use it.

It happened so fast, he let go of me and collaped. I realised I'd, id..." She explained stuttering, some how keeping the tears for falling untill the end.

She broke down in tears, her legs getting to weak to hold her body "Shh it okay sugar. There a blanket in the trunk, go get wrapped up. I won't be long" he pressed a soft kiss to her cheek.

Pushing her in the direction of his cruiser, lee followed the beam of his flash light deeper into the woods.

He wasn't surprised by the sight of Tommy's lifeless body. He was more surprised by the amount of blood on him and daisy.

On closer inspection, it looked like daisy had tried to stop the bleeding and her story was definitely self defense. Things that would help her case in court.

Hell would have to freeze over before daisy went to court.

Daisy sat bundled up in the blanket like lee had told her to. She kept staring ahead of her into space. She didn't even register the door opening or lee wrapping his arm around her.

She was completely zoned out untill she realised they were traveling in the complete opposite direction to the station.

"Where we going lee? Ain't ya gonna lock me up?" Daisy asked, what was her pa going to say?.

His sweet innocent daughter a murderer "What for? It was self defence right? Anyway I'm gonna make it all disappear" lee questioned with a raised brow.

He glanced over at daisy. "Why would you do that? I killed someone" she gasped in disbelief, her head snapping towards him.

Lee pulled up at a red light, he smiled placing a hand on her cheek "Because I love you Daisy" he confessed

"You, you do?" You stuttered, lee loved her. Those three words she had been waiting to hear for years.

Her pa never said those words to her nor that he was ever proud of her. She did everything she could to hear this words from him.

Now here she was, the most important man in her life confessing his love for her. "I do, and I ain't letting the woman I love go to jail for something she didn't do" he affirmed.

Pulling his attention back to the road. "Your staying with me tonight. We will sort an alibi in the morning" he explained.

He was going to do everything in his power to protect Daisy in every way possible. As lee pulled up in his drive way daisy spoke up "Hey lee"

"Yeah darling'?"
"I love you too"
