"How's the patient?" I asked as I stood in front of the patient as I do my rounds.
"The vital signs are all normal," sagot ng isang resident sa akin. "She's recovering so far, Doc. Pain scale is on 5, unlike yesterday..."
"Is that how you report to your senior?" I scolded. "Anyone?"
As always, Gelo reported it in a smooth manner. So far, siya pati yung babaeng resident ang nagugustuhan ko. Really competent.
"You can tone done the Mannitol," I told him as he nodded while taking notes.
After the rounds, dumiretso ako sa cafeteria to buy myself some sandwich. Buti na lang ay hindi ako umorder ng kanina dahil may inorder pala ako.
As I made my way back, dumiretso ako sa HQ kung saan dati doon ako tumatambay. The residents were all working hard, lalo na sa ilang 3rd year na gumagawa ng thesis nila. May ilan naman na kumakain din.
"Good afternoon, Doctora," bati sa akin saka ako napangiti.
"Dra. Addison Bermudez?" I heard the delivery guy called my name as he went to me and placed the paper bag in front of me. Dahil bayad naman na 'yon, pinasalamatan ko na lang si Kuya saka siya umalis.
I opened the beef noodle that I bought in a Chinese restaurant as the aroma exploded inside the room.
"Para may motivation kayong kumain," sabi ko. "Akala niyo ba hindi ko alam na hindi kumakain ang ilan sa inyo?" taas-kilay kong sabi. "A competent doctor always find a time to eat. They don't starve themselves."
"Tama! Tama!" sulsol ng ilang doctor. "Kaya kumain kayo!"
I ate, together with the residents, since they have Beef Bulgogi, at binigyan pa nila ako. I don't have someone to talk to in here since I'm not close with everyone. As much I want to create friendships in here, hindi rin naman ako magtatagal dito.
Pagtapos kumain, nakatanggap ako ng tawag sa isang unknown number pero agad ko itong binaba.

This is Sage. Go to the radiology viewing room. ASAP.
I sighed and I just went there, only to see Sage who's sitting at the swivel chair. I just gave him a low nod as he looked at me. Naupo ako sa kabila saka tiningnan ang CT scan sa screen.
Is that a case of Essential tremor?
"Essential tremor?" I asked him.
He nodded. "Yup. What are the treatment for the that?"
"Beta-blockers, Propanolol and primidone," I answered.
"In surgeon's perspective?" he tilted his head. The question and answer that shook me.
"Deep brain stimulation."
He nodded. "Correct."
"A-are you doing it?" I asked. Medyo na excite ako! I have been watching the awake surgery back in Basel thrice but only in the gallery.
"Of course," sagot niya. "Do you want to be my assistant?"
"Ba't ko tatanggihan?!" I gushed. "I have been watching DBS thrice back in Switzerland, I wouldn't miss this!"
Grabe ang tuwa ko!
"Prepare yourself then two weeks from now," sabi niya saka ako tumango.
"Thank you," I said and pursed my lip as I gave off a small smile.
Lumabas ako ng radiology viewing room saka nagpunta sa nurse's station.
"Doc- oh Prof," bungad ng isang resident sa amin. Napalingon ako at nakita ko si Sage sa likod. "Magla-lunch kami. Sama ho kayo?"
