After the conference, agad akong lumabas ng conference room kasabay si 1st year, a.k.a, Gelo. Naiilang daw siya at 1st year ang tawag ko sa kanya.
"Dra. Bermudez, may tanong po ako," ani Gelo. "Sa tingin niyo, sino po ang gusto niyong mag mentor sa inyo?"
I shrugged. "Let them choose, I don't mind."
Ayoko naman kay Sage dahil 'di ko siya kayang harapin. Mas lalong ayoko kay Dr. Tuazon. Baka araw-araw lang kaming magsabong. I quote, "You and I will never get along."
"Dra. Bermudez," Dr. Tuazon called as he walked towards me. I tilted my head and looked at me.
"I am sorry," he said. "I shouldn't have crossed the line and respected your decisions."
"I... was wrong."
Tahimik ako at nakatingin lang siya sa akin, na para bang nagdedebate ang mga iniisip niya kung tatanggapin ko ba ang sorry niya o hindi.
"Okay," sabi ko sabay lampas sa kanya.
"Okay lang?" he asked.
"Why? May iba ka pa bang gustong marinig?" I asked. "Oh, lemme guess, the reason why I was here."
"You love holding grudges, aren't you?"
"Magaling ako d'yan, pati ungkatan ng past," sabi ko. "And yes, I love holding grudges. Because as you can see, Dr. Tuazon, I'm generous. I give back what I always get. And because I'm generous, I give back twice or even thrice of what I get."
I strutted my way down the halls as I searched for my phone since it was ringing.
"Hello, Aira," I greeted.
"Mama!" I heard Diana's voice. Naka on ang camera ng phone ko at nakita ko ang sarili. I looked at myself, only to see my neck wearing a familiar necklace.
It was the necklace that Sage gave me on my birthday.
Kaya baka tumingin siya sa akin at nakita niya 'to?!
Sa dinami-rami naman kasi ng kwintas at ito pa ang nasuot ko!
Aside from my favorite color is green, emerald symbolizes Diana's birthmonth.
"Hi, mein schatz," I greeted. "Wie gehts?"
"Gut," she answered. "Ich vermisse dich, Mama."
"Ich vermisse dich auch, baby," I told her.
"Beschäftigt, Mama?" she asked.
"Nicht wirklich, meine Liebe. Ich rufe Sie später an, okay?" I said. "Willst du etwas?"
"Cake, Mama!"
I smiled. "Okay, I'll buy you a cake."
"Ich liebe dich, Mama," sabi niya bago mag kiss sa camera.
"I love you, too, my sweetheart," I told her before waving goodbye and ending the call.
It was lunch already at agad akong umalis para bumili ng lunch. Hindi ko trip pagkain ngayon sa cafeteria at dahil malapit lang naman ang mga fast food chains dito sa ospital ay doon na lang ako bumili.
I spend eating my lunch at my office and waited for the time to come before my rounds. Hanggang hapon lang ang duty ko kaya naman nurse at sa resident ko na lang ibibilin ang pasyente ko.
It's time for my last rounds for today before I checked my patients to see if there's improvement.
Bago pa ako umuwi, dumaan ako sa bakeshop para dalhan ng cake si Diana.
As I arrived to the mansion, kabababa lang din ni Diana and she just woke up from her afternoon nap.
"Hi, baby," I greeted as she went straight to me, still with eyes closed. Nagpabuhat naman siya at agad ko siyang kinuha. "I've got you cake, baby."
