Chapter 13

I wasn't even surprised that he's a doctor. I mean, he's my senior. And this hits differently when the first time after a few years— I don't know, like, 10 years since the last time we saw each other at med school. And to the fact that I asked him to have sex with me yesterday.

You're so stupid, Addison. Ito ba ang nagagawa ng walang dilig?

This is just too much to absorb.

"Uh, nice meeting you, Doc," nahihiya kong sabi. Lumingon ako kay Doc Hernandez. "Ngayon na po ba magra-rounds?"

"Oh, yes, come on and we've got a lot to do."

Tahimik akong naglakad kasama... si Sage saka si Doc Hernandez. I watched him ask the patients inside of this regular ward.

"How are you?" Doc Hernandez asked.

"Okay na po, Doc," sagot ng pasyente.

"Masakit pa ba?" he asked again. "In the scale of 10."

"3."

"Good."

We moved from one patient to another. We visited the newly operated Oscar, who is still under anesthetics since he's still unconscious.

"What would you do, Doctora Bermudez?"

"Check his temperature every 2 hours and inject cold saline if the fever doesn't go down."

He nodded. "You do that."

I nodded. "Yes, Doc."

After taking notes, naglakad ulit kami para bisitahin yung iba pang pasyente. I took notes of every order that Doc Hernandez asked me. I guess I'll be duty for the next six hours. I mean, kaya ko pa naman. Or maybe I'll just take a nap.

Natapos ang rounds kaya nagpaalam na ako kay Doc na doon muna ako sa residents quarters at nagmuni-muni. To ease my boredom, I decided to continue watching Grey's Anatomy.

I kicked off the day by having a morning coffee. Dahil kaka check ko lang sa mga pasyente, I decided to eat breakfast at the coffee shop nearby. Gusto ko sana ng fast food pero masyadong malayo kaya nag shawarma rice na lang ako.

"Iced Macadamia Latte for Addison!"

"Iced Americano for Sage!"

Pangalawang beses na namin 'tong eksena na 'to sa coffee shop. I smiled as I took the drink and made my way outside. I was about to pull my phone when the pager vibrated, making me fasten my pace since it's code blue.

I used the fastest way, which is an elevator, at agad naman akong nakarating sa ward.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Nag convulse siya, Doc, tapos po biglang umingay at bumaba yung heart rate niya," sabi nung guardian. This patient was actually passed to Doc Hernandez kaya agad akong napatakbo. The nurse dragged the crash cart along with her.

"The patient's having a cardiac arrest. Ready the defibrillator!" I said. The nurse quickly assembled everything as I open the lab gown of the patient. I performed CPR while preparing the defibrillator. Agad naman inabot ito sakin pagtapos ayusin.

"Charge to 200!" I instruct. "In the count of 3. Move away!"

"3, 2, 1 release!"

I continued to pump as they ready the next one.

"Charge to 100!"

After the release, I hit the patient's chest, making his heartbeat return.

"ROSC," one of the nurses declared. Nakahinga ako ng maluwag saka ko ulit ito inobserbahan. I ordered the nurse to give a prescription before leaving.
