Chapter 44

The doctors surprised me as they started singing the happy birthday song at me. I pulled out my phone as I try to take a video.

"Happy birthday to you!" they sang before cheering and clapping their hands. "Make a wish na, Doc!"

I made a quick wish before blowing the candle as everyone claps.

"Thank you, thank you!" I told them. "Nag-abala pa kayo."

"Basta ikaw, Doc!" sabi nung isang resident. Natawa naman ako.

"Sa totoo lang, ngayon ko lang naalala na birthday ko," I laughed a bit. "Am I really that busy?"

"Picture muna tayo bago kumain," sabi nung isang resident. He raised his arm a bit so we can have that groupie. Sunod naman niyang pinicturan ako kasama yung cake. I appreciated everyone's effort.

"Anyway, who's idea is this?" tanong ko.

Nakakapagtaka. Hindi naman nila alam na birthday ko kaya nagulat ako na may pa ganito. They all stopped and gazed at one person. It was no other than… Sage.

I was shocked but the reigning beat inside my chest was unstoppable, and so does the swarming sensation of butterflies in my stomach. I pursed my lips before gazing at Dra. Hidalgo, who's standing next to him.

"Picture naman kayo, Doc!" sulsol ng ilan sa kanila. They pulled Sage as they placed him next to me. I felt myself freeze and didn't know what to do. "Ngiti kayo, Prof."

I just find myself stretching a smile genuinely.

"Okay na, kain na kayo," I clapped my hands together.

"Did you like it?" I heard Sage asked. Napatingin ako sa kanya.

I nodded and smiled a little. "Nag abala ka pa, pero thank you."

"I'm glad you liked it."

"Doc, Prof, kain na kayo," sabi sa amin nung isang resident.

I thanked the resident after handing us our food in the container.

Pagtapos kumain, nag-aya na ako ng rounds dahil halfday lang ako ngayong araw. I went straight to my office after as I was surprised with gifts on my desk.

"What the hell?" I mumbled quietly.

From chocolates to flowers, all of them are here. Now, how the hell am I supposed to take all of these home?

I sighed and was about to pack up when I heard a knock outside.

"Come in," I mumbled.

The door opened and had Sage standing outside. Agad niya rin sinara yung pinto pagtapos pumasok.

"Are you leaving?" he asked.

I shook my head. "Was about to."

I was looking for a paper bag that would fit every gift. Everyone's too generous.

"Here," aniya sabay lapag ng maliit na box sa harap ko.

Kumunot ang noo ko. "What's this?"

"Open it," sabi niya.

I picked up the box and it's a Victorian Diamond and Emerald brooch. They're in a interlocking circle form. Bakit ba ang hilig niya magbigay ng alahas?!

"P-parang sobra naman 'to," sabi ko sa kanya.

"Nope," sabi niya. "And by the way, as a gift, the chairman will give you two plane tickets in the country of your choice."

I frowned.

Teka naman, bakit ang galante?!

"Sobra nga," I mumbled that made him chuckle. "Pwedeng pag umuwi na lang ako ng Switzerland gamitin ko 'yan? Two one way tickets would be good. Hindi pa naman ako aalis dahil hindi pa tapos ang trabaho ko."
