Wei Ying sat in the lecture hall listening to Old Grandmaster Lan go on and on about etiquette, rules, and the history of Cloud Recesses. As much as Wei Ying liked to learn something new, he always finds himself getting bored. He takes glances at Lan Zhan sitting to the left of him. He was sitting very properly and it made Wei Ying want to force him to slouch.
A mischievous smile suddenly appeared on his face. He quietly took out one of his paper men and transferred some energy to it. Keeping an eye on Qiren, Wuxian animated his little paperman and let him start walking. The little paperman slowly crept down the desk of Wuxian's and did its best to sneak over to Lan Zhan. Thus it was a success without being caught.
Over with Wangji, through his peripheral vision he kept an eye on Wuxian. Especially when he saw him shift. A little more alarmed, he kept his peripheral vision on Wuxian. He then felt something tugging on his robes. He looked down and saw the little paperman. All Wangji could do was sigh.
'Wei Ying, what are you doing?' Wangji thought.
Wangji kept his focus up front to his uncle but also to the little paperman now on his leg. Wangji managed to shift his head and looked at Wuxian who was smiling at him mischievously. He could only glare back at him to tell he to stop. It only made Wuxian want to mess with him more. He managed to sneak the little paperman under Wangji's desk and made its way to the front of the room and hide by Qiren's desk. This only got Lan Zhan more worried. Not just for Wuxian but also his uncle.
Lan Qiren was not a person to taunt and tease on a regular basis. Wangji knew how much his uncle hated troublemakers and he knew that Wuxian was now on very thin ice. Wangji could only sit quietly and hope that things don't get out of hand. He then caught a figure entering the room and sat up front beside Qiren....Zewu Jun. Wangji hoped that his brother could help with the situation.
Xichen took a glance at Wangji and could see he was nervous and uneasy about something. Then he saw it, the little paperman now in between him and Qiren. Xichen now understood his brother's concern. But he then wondered which student was bold and brave enough to pull this kind of stunt. Glancing at Wangji again, Wangji gently nudged his head to the direction of Wuxian. Xichen took a glance at Wuxian and could see that he was the culprit. Xichen had to really force himself not to laugh. Wuxian indeed was the one to be this bold.
Trying to keep his composure, Xichen kept a look out for the paperman. He lost sight of it for a moment. He then felt something on his hand and looked down, hopefully unnoticed by Qiren. He saw the paperman by his hand. Xichen was now really trying to suppress his laughter.
'Wuxian, you are something else,' Xichen thought. The paper man then disappeared once more, and out of Xichen's sight. He carefully scanned the room hoping that Wuxian stopped his antics. As he couldn't spot the paperman, he kept his eyes on Wuxian. He looked as if he was still messing around but his smile wasn't mischievous anymore, it was more gentle and kind. Wuxian was enjoying himself. He messed with Lan Zhan and Xichen unnoticed by Qiren. Though, he had a feeling even though Xichen was trying to not laugh, he was probably going to reprimand him later. That or Lan Zhan will.
Wuxian's little paperman sat hidden by his desk again when he noticed something to his right. If Wuxian remembered correctly, it was Jiang Yanli. Yanli is the oldest daughter of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. She wore purple robes, which had a somewhat sad expression on her face. She was fair skinned and had a calm and beautiful aura about her. She seemed gentle, and felt that she was a good person towards basically everyone she met. But he heard people talking a bit back, he heard the young girl was being reprimanded and put down by a man who was rumored to be her future husband. Wuxian didn't understand, why go through such a horrible situation with a guy so arrogant and harsh to her. For the moment, he ignored it because he felt deep down he wanted to cheer her up.
The paperman secretly made its way over to the girl and quickly but quietly made its way on top of her desk. At this point, Wuxian didn't care if he got into trouble, he didn't want to see this girl upset. The girl took notice of the little paper figure on her desk and couldn't help but smile at it. The little paperman bowed to her and started to dance and twirl around the desk until it fell onto her lap. Once on her lap the paperman latched onto her hand and hugged it. Moving the little paper hand back and forth as a show for comfort. That made the young maiden smile more and with her finger, she patted the little paperman's head, as a thank you.
The bell rang giving others notice that the lecture had come to an end. The paperman bowed once more at the maiden and went back to Wuxian. She looked at him and smiled and decided to say hello to him.
"Thank you for the little moment with the paperman," the girl said.
"Of course, I thought you would like some cheering up, you looked a bit upset," Wuxian told her.
"I am just going through some things," she said, "it's good to see you again...if you want to and are comfortable with it, you can call me Shijie."
Wuxian flashed his heartwarming smile at her, "if it is okay, shijie sounds nice, I am an only child so it makes it sound nice, and my name is Wei Ying, courtesy name is Wuxian."
"Mind if I call you A'Xian?" She asked
His grandmother and mother have been the only ones who called him by that name. With Yanli calling him that, it makes him feel warm inside. He decided then to treat this girl as his older sister, "of course you can."
Yanli smiled back at him when another person stepped into the conversation, "Jie?"
"A'Cheng, you remember, Wei Wuxian, right? I am going to call him A'Xian," Yanli stated to the man and looked back to Wuxian, "this is my little brother Jiang Cheng, just to remind you."
"Nice to meet you, again," Wuxian greeted.
"Maybe I could like you," Jiang Cheng stated, "but I'm not as open and caring as my sister. I'm more authoritative."
"As expected from a future Sect leader," Wuxian stated. Jiang Cheng didn't know how to respond to that.
"Cheng and I have to head out but maybe we can meet up again some time outside of classes," Yanli said.
"Absolutely," Wuxian said and then watched them leave.
He was then the only student left in the room. Xichen and Lan Zhan were still there though. Wuxian averted his attention to Lan Zhan and could see he was upset about something. He was looking at Wuxian like he was caught cheating on his significant other.
'Is Lan Zhan jealous of me making friends with the Yunmeng family?' Wuxian wondered, 'but why?'
"Wei Wuxian?" Xichen called out with a mischievous smile on his face, "come here please." Now he was going to see just what punishment he was going to get this time.
"Hello Xichen," Wuxian greet when he approached him and Lan Zhan, "I know, lay it on me."
"You really are a bold one young man," Xichen stated, "I was trying very hard to keep my composure. If Uncle caught you his punishment would be worse than I would give you."
"So what is it then?" Wuxian asked.
"Copying writings on Etiquette 300 times," Lan Zhan butted in.
"Huh!?" Wuxian asked, "etiquette?" Both the Lan brothers nodded at him, "fine, I'll go to the library after lunch and start writing."
"I am happy to see you cheered up young mistress Jiang Yanli though," Xichen added, "so Wangji, I'm sorry but I'm reducing it to 150 copies."
All Wangji could do was glare at his brother before he huffed and left them both standing there. Wuxian let out a giggle as he found Lan Zhan upset and pouting kind of cute.
"May I walk with you to the dining hall?" Wuxian asked Xichen.
"Of course," he responded and walked away with Wuxian.
