It's been six months since Wei Ying entered Cloud Recesses. He manages to convince his grandmother to allow him to go, but did not know what to expect. When he first roomed with Lan Zhan, the two acted like they were walking on ice around each other. Now, the two became so fond of the other. Wuxian did not expect to meet his soulmate during his time at Cloud Recesses. He also did not expect it to be the second master twin Jade, Lan Zhan, either. Though, Wuxian never really thought much of who his future partner would be or what they would be like, but now that it is Lan Zhan, he is convinced that he has never met anyone better.
The two were respectable of each other as well. They only went as far as kissing and cuddling. Occasionally, neck kissing and biting would get involved but nothing ever went beyond that point. They were both still fairly young of course, so they did not want to make such a rash decision as to start being more intimate with one another.
Aside from their daily lovey-dovey moments, they spent some time taking care of Daiyu and Xiaobao. The two little bunnies were very happy and comfortable within their new home. Xichen did take notice and at first was considering a punishment for them breaking the rules, but seeing as the Jingshi was further from the main hall and other student accommodations, he let it be. Plus, they were just harmless little rabbits that grew up unable to fend for themselves. He decided to let the boys be, as he also knew that the two were growing more fond of each other by they day, he wanted them to bond more over something, and the rabbits were something that could help.
It was late one night as Lan Zhan and Wei Ying were sleeping soundly. Wuxian though, was starting to stir slightly in his sleep and his body began to tremble. The sudden movements of Wei Ying caused Wangji to wake. Since the two still had their beds side by side, they often held each other to sleep. Since Wuxian was getting more irritable, Lan Zhan became worried. He tried to carefully wake him but it was not working. Eventually, Wuxian stopped moving and rolled from his side to his back. Lan Zhan waved his hand to let the candles light up to make sure he can see Wei Ying better. As he studied his soulmate, he thought everything was okay. As Lan Zhan was getting ready to turn over to go back to sleep, Wuxian's eyes bolted open, and they were a crimson red color. Lan Zhan then became more worried. Wuxian sat up and stood at the side of the bed.
"Wei Ying?" Lan Zhan calmly asked.
He did not respond, based off his demeanor and movements, Lan Zhan realized that this is what Wei Ying looked like sleep walking. Lan Zhan then became more alert so he could keep watch on Wuxian. Wei Ying still stood there beside the bed and did nothing. Quietly and with slow movements he sent a little flare that would go straight to his brother, even with his brother asleep the flare would wake him and he would be there in a moment's notice. It only took about two minutes before Xichen entered the Jingshi, he had his sword, Shuoyue* and his white jade xiao, Liebing.*
"Wangji, what happened?" Xichen asked and immediately looked and Wuxian.
"He has been standing like this for a few minutes," Wangji answered, "I think he is sleeping walking for real this time. He is not responding to me."
"All we can do is watch him, waking him could trigger a stress response with unintended consequences," Xichen answered and moved over to Wangji's side, "His eyes..."
"I think it has something to do with resentful energy, he can use and control it as well as sense it, if you remember," Wangji explained. Xichen nodded.
After another minute of standing still, Wuxian turned and only picked up Chenqing and went towards the door of the Jingshi.
"Should we stop him from leaving or just follow?" Wangji asked.
"Grab Bichen, I think we should follow, maybe he will lead us somewhere with resentful energy. You told me there has been a lot of it around lately, and it has nothing to do with Wuxian."
Wangji nodded as he grabbed his sword and followed Wei Ying out the door with Xichen beside him. They kept a decent amount of distance from Wuxian as they followed. Wuxian was headed towards the back hills of Cloud Recesses. It is usually restricted for clan members only, and guests are not allowed. Since it was not under Wuxian's control (Sort of) he can't really be punished for it. As they followed, they heard someone approach them from the left of them. It happened to be Lan Qiren. He knew nothing of Wuxian's sleepwalking, or his resentful control. When he saw his nephews following the boy he began to question what was happening.
"What are you two doing?" Qiren Scolded.
"Wei Ying is sleepwalking," Wangji answered and continued to follow.
Xichen decided to inform Qiren of everything that he and Wangji know about Wuxian, with the nightmares, night terrors, and sleep walking, to the childhood trauma, to the control of resentful energy. Qiren was not happy about the resentful energy part but because the boy was sleepwalking and Baoshan's grandson, he had to keep in mind that Baoshan probably has things under control or knows how to deal with Wuxian. He would personally like to sit with Wuxian and speak with him, without judgement, to know of this side of him and have answered to the best of Wuxian's ability. The three decided to keep going. Eventually, Wuxian stopped by a giant cliff made of stone. You could sense there was a barrier to keep people out.
"How does he know of the Cold Caves?" Lan Qiren asked.
"I don't think he does know, his eyes were crimson," Xichen explained, "It's almost like, although he his sleepwalking, he is following resentment that is nearby."
"I suppose of he can use and control it, he could sense where it is, but why the cave?"
"I don't know," Xichen answered, "He cannot get in though, he is not a clan member."
Before Qiren could say anything they watch Wuxian make a talisman and tossed it towards the cliff. It created a small enough whole for him to get through to get past the barrier.
"How did he do that?" Xichen asked.
"He is immortal, so it makes since," Wangji spilled.
"He what?" Qiren and Xichen said together.
Wangji realized what he had just said. That was something Wuxian kept to himself and Wangji only. But it would be the only reason for Wuxian to break through the barrier.
"Wei Ying wanted it to be kept secret," Wangji said, "I did not mean to share that."
"I am sure he would understand, for his safety," Xichen said. The three then went followed Wuxian into the cold cave.
Wuxian had this orange like barrier around him to keep him from getting hit from the cord assassination from the guqin laying in the center of the cave. Since it was his mother's guqin, Qiren managed to calm it so it would not harm Wuxian. The three then approached Wuxian who was still in his sleep walking state.
