Quite some time has passed since the sudden rescue from the secret chambers. Ace and Yuni have grown bolder in their attempts to rescue the enslaved Inerans. It was to the point that both of them would hit two slave markets simultaneously with the support of Razor and Elora.
Ace has continued replicating Razor's shadow technique as his own during his spare time. However, his tasks are all over the place in rebuilding the kingdom. Creating Automatons, helping Ferghus with his anti-dimensional field for the Fallen, drawing up schematics for the Ineran defences and many more.
"Shit, I need a coffee," Ace commented, finishing his 6th Automaton.
There were bags under Ace's eyes, and just closing his eyes for a few seconds was bliss for his fatigued body.
"What's that?" Darklin asked.
"A nice hot beverage to help wake me up. It's a nice drink to have in the morning."
Ace was in his workshop surrounded by five other automatons, including Alpha-1. To help Ace distinguish Alpha from the rest, he has gold markings around his body to indicate that he was the first model ever created.
"I should figure out a name for the others. But I can't continue from Alpha 2 and so on... best to categorise them according to their type rather than the Greek alphabet," Ace thought deeply.
Alpha stood out among the automatons, and its gold markings were unique. Though all were made from the same material, there was an obvious preference. Ace intended to keep Alpha as his personal guard, treating it differently from the others.
Darklin took a look at the weaponry Ace had created for them. Currently, they are equipped with a prototype retractable shield that creates a kite-shaped barrier powered by a mana crystal. And a sword that is sheathed inside the Automaton's back. This had given Darklin an idea.
"Ineran Defenders"
Ace looked at Darklin with approval.
"I'll go with that."
Going along with Darklin's suggestion, the five new automatons are now designated I.D 1 to 5. While Ace still kept Alpha-1's specified name.
"Explain to me Ace why this must be necessary? And why keep Alpha's registered name?"
Ace focused on connecting a mana crystal for his new retractable shield tilting his head towards Darklin's direction.
"There will most likely be more types of Automatons in the future once the other craftsmen are finally free from more important duties currently at hand. It's just easier to designate them according to their role and specification."
"And Alpha?"
"...Well, he's the first one of the bunch. Of course, I'd be much more sentimental for the first one. He'll be the automaton to try out the prototypes first before I can figure out a way for mass production. What do you think? They look like a small squad of knights do they?"
"I assume so but would they not be used as fodder?"
"No, I'll be the one to command them in the frontlines when the time comes. I have to reduce the number of casualties as much as possible."
Suddenly, Ace's head shot up, his gaze fixed on the entry door. Razor stood there, arm casually propped against the doorframe, peering inside with an unexpected smile.
"I need to start stationing automatons at the front to keep out uninvited guests," Ace said, crossing his arms.
Razor chuckled. "Hey, I don't have a communication stone to notify you. You're the craftsman here, why not make something to solve that problem?"
