Chapter 20
__________
I've put an extra effort to look my best this morning. I can't say Pansy wasn't suspicious as she was curling the ends of my hair, but she didn't dare to ask why, all of sudden, I need curled hair when I've spent my whole time in here just brushing it with a comb. I think that's why we're best fiends - we simply understand each other without questioning.
First class is Potions. We get there right on time and enter the big classroom that smells like a mixture of herbs and fire, all kinds of potions mixed together. It's dark in here, the curtains are trapping the light coming out of the windows, only a few candles are lit on the huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
Although I've been sitting next to Pansy for three years, we've decided to switch. Just for today. I pull Theo's chair closer to me as he sits down. He looks fine, a bit tired, but fine. I think he combed his hair a bit today - it looks like it has more volume.
Pansy and Blaise are next to us and Zion is nowhere to be seen. I guess he has more important things to do now that he has to please not one, but two people at once.
I sense Draco come into the classroom just a few minutes after everyone finds a seat. I don't look at him, I just hear him shut the door after he walks in. By his footsteps, I assume he's going to walk through the isle between me and Pansy.
"Good morning, class," he says with tired and annoyed voice, the combination that's not usual for him.
Everyone answers except me, I keep staring at Theo's hand tangled with mine. His fingers are thin, much thinner than mine, but not longer than Draco's.
He's walking closer and closer toward me from behind, I feel his eyes on my back. When he's just a few centimeters from me, he slows down a bit, his black suit blazer brushes against the wooden desk I'm sitting by.
"You smell good," he tells in my mind, my body immediately flinches by the sound of his deep and calming voice.
I don't look up. He continues walking with no answer from me.
I will not be the second chance. I will not let him choose between me and Regina, I'm not be that desperate for him, to have him. Because deep down I know, one day he'll be the one who will beg me to stay.
When he gets to his desk, sheets of paper fly to every student in this room. An annoyed grunt echoes across the walls when he gives us a test. Another one. Questions about veritaserum, some of them I don't know the answers to.
"I'm going to need your help," Theo whispers to me.
I glance at his desperate face and smile at him with a nod. After I'm done with my half of answers, I dictate them to him. I have to change them a bit, but the meaning stays the same.
"Keep your eyes on your test, miss Bardot," professor tells me from behind his desk, his eyes fixed on me.
There was silence in the classroom, so my body flinches a bit when he says my name. "Fuck," I cuss in my mind and roll my eyes, but still, I don't give him the satisfaction of looking back at him.
I tell Theo all the answers through my mind, although I'm not sure if he heard them all. The bond between our minds is too thin and weak, we haven't used it yet until now.
"Lou?" My name echoes in my mind for a few seconds until I realize it's not Theo's voice, but Draco's.
I ignore him completely and glance at Theo.
"I know you can hear me,"
Pansy starts giggling with Blaise, so I turn to them only to find them kissing each other, their tests completely empty.
