You Make Me Love Yellow

You emit yellow in the most beautiful form.

You are a ray of sunshine on a summer's eve,
settling with the breeze,
letting it settle within.

I hated yellow before you came,
because the brightness was never as bright as you,
the softness you brought with it could never compare to the real pastel yellow.

I never realized yellow could be serenity.

The voice of reason to my anger,
the calm disagreement when I've upset you,
the subtle crying when the world tries to dirty your yellow.

Somehow I fell in love with yellow because of you,
despite not owning a single piece of yellow to wear,
I'd collect every yellow trinket as it reminds me of you.

I fell in love with you in the purest form.

I love your smile when you read your favorite passages,
I love your eyes when you stare at the moon in adoration,
I love your squeals when Paul Dano or Ethan Hawke pop up on your feed,
I love your touch when you fix my hair for me,
I love your voice when you sing entire lyrics to songs I've never heard,
I love your laugh when your for you page on Tiktok is nothing like mine.

I never thought you could love someone so much without being with them romantically,
yet the idea of being with you is more exciting than being with my own boyfriend.

I use to describe you to people as a Hufflepuff,
then it turned to the kindest soul you could imagine,
then to everything I wish I was,
then to the color yellow.

Amaris,
this is my love letter to you,
because if you were to leave me behind,
you would take every single color in my life away with you.
