(SARAH’S POV - the night before the mission)
"Hi beautiful, I’ve missed you," says the voice on the other end.
You can't help the small smile that creeps onto your lips, "Hi Marc... Can we meet somewhere to talk?"
"Of course sweetheart," he says, "I'm free now. Where should I meet you?"
You pause and think for a moment.
"Or I could come to your place?" he offers.
(Half an hour later)
You climb the steps of the subway and turn down the street. Its starting to rain so you walk quickly, pulling your jacket close. Two blocks later you stop in front of a tall brick apartment building. You check your appearance in the reflection of the glass door. You take your hood down and smooth your hair, checking that your makeup hasn’t run. You didn’t wear very much, just a bit of eyeliner and mascara but you want to make sure it is still in place still before you push the call button. A moment later you hear a loud buzz and you push the door open.
You knock on Marc's apartment door and he opens it quickly. He smiles warmly at you and hugs you tight. You hug him back and he kisses your cheek before letting you go. He puts his hand on your lower back and guides you to the kitchen, you had been to his old apartment several times before but not this new one.
"It's good to see you again Sarah," Marc says as he opens a bottle of wine. He takes two glasses out of the cabinet. "How long has it been? Almost two years?” he asks.
“Mmmhmm, I think so,” you mumble.
“It was right after you and that blonde idiot broke up, right?” he puts the bottle down and looks at you. “You know, when I heard you were dating a literal God I didn't think I was going to hear from you again," he says as he hands you a glass.
“I didn’t mean to ignore you for so long,” you say.
He shrugs and smiles at you, “Well I’m still glad you called.”
"Honestly, I'm not even sure why I did," you tell him.
Picking up his glass and the bottle you follow him to the living room. He sits on one end of the couch and you sit in the other. He places the bottle of wine on the table between you.
"Well... you did call me, so that can only mean one thing," you don't like the way he smiles when he says that.
You take a small sip of your wine and then run your fingers over the rim of the glass. You avoid looking at him but you can feel him staring at you.
"You know you only ever call me for one reason Sarah. Not that I'm complaining," he laughs a bit.
"Well that's not why I called today," you tell him, not sure if you are trying to convince just him or both of you.
"Ah, then I was wrong... I assumed you called cause there was trouble in paradise and you wanted a bit of comfort," he said smugly.
"I called you because I don't have anyone else to go to," you say defensively. You tell him how Loki and Y/N are both not speaking to you. He listens and pours you both a second glass of wine.
"Look, I don’t know anything about this ‘God’ of yours, but I’ve known Y/N almost as long as you have. We both know when she can be incredibly stubborn, especially if she thinks she is right. If you want to fix things with her you are really going to have to apologize honestly to her,” he tells you bluntly.
You nod in agreement, “I know, I haven’t gotten a chance to really apologize to either of them. They both mean so much to me, I don’t want to lose either of them.”
